RAIN ON THE PARADE! Has THIS Issue Caused You GRIEF On YOUR Honda Or A Friends?
This was experienced by an old friend in Canada.

Have you or a friend has this issue and had your parade rained on?

"When a Feature ain't a Benefit!

My Honda Civic has a feature that can't be turned off or disengaged (according to those who are knowledgeable in Honda Canada).

Upon pressing the remote door opener in a certain way, it lowers all the windows (allegedly to air out the car as one approaches it on a hot day).  Unfortunately, sitting with the keys in my back pocket can accidentally cause the same result.

I first discovered this "feature" when I came out to get in the car one morning after an all night rainstorm . . . and found all the windows down and the seats soaked. I hadn't been told about this when I was receiving the "here's what you need to know about your car" presentation when I picked it up.

After numerous calls to Honda, and explaining the situation several times, the final determination was that this feature cannot be turned off.  That is at least good to know, provided I remember to change a 50 year habit of keeping the keys in my back pocket--which I tend to sit on!

The funny (or not so funny) time this seems to occur is ONLY when it's pouring rain and I'm hunkered down in the house for the evening.  Coincidence? Perhaps not!

This morning, I received a phone call from my wife and daughter as they were heading out for the day. They commented (without a great deal of sympathy in their coordinated voices--perhaps even with a mirthful tone) that my windows were down and that the inside was soaking wet. Yet again!

I'm sure the folks at Honda thought they were designing a great feature into the car. Unfortunately, it is of no benefit to me (the hapless customer) and there is no way to turn it off. There's probably a lesson in there somewhere for all of us!"

How about this? The manufacturer let's you configure your key fob on your computer and then lets you activate/deactivate features, but really with phones replacing the fob...

I know plenty of cars with this feature, not just Honda. I don't know if the other manufacturers allow for the feature to be disabled, but my BMW did not, that I was aware of. You have to press the button and stay on it for it to activate. I don't put my keys in my backpocket and I'm not sure I ever would for fear of crushing the fob and, frankly, it's just uncomfortable unless you like that sort of thing. I don't even put my wallet back there.

Thia feature has been in Honda vehicles for a long time now. This is a great feature especially in hot summer days.

What he person is doing can cause many other side effects like unlocking the door by mistake or press the panic button. It just so happen that it was the open door button and it lowered all the windows.

I would not be at all interested in Having MY cars OPEN THE WINDOWS unless I am doing it on purpose - Imagine being in NYC and having your car OPEN UP all the windows when you are not yet in the car! THe car would not be there when you get to the empty parking space

I can't think of a worse place to carry a key fob on my person. They are all covered in buttons, and even if it doesn't trigger something like this you'll run the batteries down far too quickly.

My Niro has the most sensitive emergency alarm button than any car I've ever had. I've set the alarm off just bending over with the fob in my front pocket, and nothing else in the pocket with it. My wife even did it by bumping her purse while walking to the car. I can't fathom how many times I'd have set it off with it in my back pocket. Not to mention having that lump impacting my seating comfort. It's bad enough in the summer when I have to carry my wallet there since it's too warm for a jacket. But being larger it's bulk is more spread out compared to a fob.

Being a Honda, it'll still drive fine
