Tesla Admits Design Flaw Causes The Model 3 To Fall Apart In Rain

Tesla admits that a problem with Model 3 vehicles led to them losing the body panel on their rear bumper when driving in puddles of water.

Early on, the Model 3 had some issues with the body panel on the rear bumper falling off after driving through what drivers have described as heavy rain or water puddles.

That’s obviously not normal, and Tesla said that it was investigating the situation, but we never heard back from the automaker. Some owners had issue with Tesla performing the repair under warranty as the company argues over how deep the water was that car owners drove through.

Between the Model 3 and Model X glass shattering and the bathtub-like rear plastic bumper filling up with water and snow and then ripping off the vehicle due to the weight, I think its a safer bet, if somebody wants a Tesla, to just buy the evergreen and somewhat dated Model S - at least it is a proven design at this point.

Model S is even a great deal now, since Tesla lowered the price to perhaps make up for the loss of the $7,500 government subsidy!

As soon as you see the bumper cover's design it is readily apparent what the issue is and anyone with a brain should have been able to anticipate it. But Tesla doesn't believe in prototype testing so this is par for the course.

FAQ - Hard to believe that Tesla didn't see a bumper cover shaped as a giant scoop pointed forward didn't cause them to go "Oh bad design."

Solution: Enlarge the frunk so it can hold this piece when it falls off.

Fixed May 2019, rather early production.
Ford, GM, Chrysler never has serious flaws, especially safety related, Ha.

Jeez, it's hard to believe people put up with such crappy build quality just to be "cool".
