WATCH: 2021 Golf R Caught Buck NAKED But Not Afraid At Nurburgring
A new Golf generation used to be a pretty big thing for Volkswagen - apart from the short-lived Mark VI, that is - but it looks like all the commotion around the ID.3 managed to take some pressure off it.

Could that be why the Wolfsburg company allowed a completely naked Golf R to stretch its legs on the legendary German circuit near Nurburg? Probably not, but it sure makes for a nice departure from the usual secrecy surrounding unreleased models that can sometimes reach paranoid levels.

The GTI / R is the only product VW has that is noteworthy. Both are excellent, but why must they always be wrapped in such dull-to-ugly styling?

Haha, it's part of their allure, a sleeper, deep sleeper I suppose. Nice video though, certainly using every inch of the road and more.

Allure has to be alluring and NOTHING about a GTI is alluring visually. FWD and FWD/AWD platforms can be driven fast if you use all the road. If you know how to drive FWD--for example--a GTI will slap a Miata hard at the track and not just on the straightaways but through the curves as well.
