WATCH: Run For Cover! Tesla Has Released It's Full Driving Beta To Select Individuals
Tesla last night released its completely rewritten Full Self-Driving technology (FSD), in Beta form, as an over-the-air update to a handful of "safe" owners. It seems the number of people who got the update is very small. It also seems only some of them have been given permission to share on social media.

We wish we knew how Tesla picked the candidates, who they are, where they're located, and what was involved. Did they all have a meeting with Tesla? Are they meeting on a regular basis as a team to report and address issues? We really have no clue at this point.

Insanity, I cannot wait to get that release. It looks surprisingly refined for such an early BETA.

Strange mix of high-tech and jackass. Way too high a pucker factor for me.

So if the software causes the car to run over and kill a pedestrian, you go to prison and get sued for multiple times your net worth. Aside from that, what is the downside?

You have to pay attention, driver still liable. But given the amount of progress in this release, maybe they are 2-3 years out before the cars themselves being liable. When robotaxis are a thing, the car/company is liable. Waymo is upping their number of driverless rides and Waymo is 100% liable if the car hits something (unless if a passenger tries to override the car perhaps, but they have a cover on the steering wheel and no pedals).
