Kia BOLDLY Claims K5 Sedan Is Better Than The 330i - Should BMW Bother To Respond?

Kia is continuing its promotional campaign for the 2021 K5 and in this latest clip, claims that the new sports sedan is superior to the BMW 330i.

The Kia K5 is currently sold in LX, LXS, GT-Line, and EX guises, all of which feature a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 180 hp and 195 lb-ft (264 Nm) of torque. However, from November, a flagship K5 GT model will be available, and presumably, it is this variant that Kia is comparing to the 330i.

No, it will help to legitimize Kia's claim. That said, the K5 looks good and could prove to be a smart marketing approach.

LOL, in no world does a Kia ever compete with a BMW.

You're absolutely right. BMW would have to improve its quality to be on par with Kia.

Maybe an independent agency could do a long term test ( Not Consumer Reports ) and may the best car win.

Not if the Kia catches fire first:

For a day-to-day driver, the Kia has better styling, better reliability, and far lower cost of maintenance. The 3 Series has become generic crap and the generic crap that Kia used to be it is no longer.

Which will give you the best experience each journey you take? To me that will be the deciding factor. Reliability is not a super big deal with ALMOST any modern car. Fortunately the 3 did not get the bizarre nose job and still has recognizable BMW styling traits. I would say that a balanced rear drive centralized mass based platform should be easier to make more enjoyable than an unbalanced fwd platform with the mass of the engine hanging out in front of the front wheels. I can't verify the engine placement in the K5 but that design is almost universal among fwd platforms. Car and Driver (I think) used to do nice cut away drawing showing engine placement etc... in their specs section of the review, would be nice if someone did that online now days.

So the indirect implication here, then, is that the K5 is better than its own Stinger, which hasn't proven to be better than the 3/4 Series.

Hyundai/Kia has some very serious reliability issues right now, but apparently they are stepping up and trying to make things right with their customers. A lesson for other manufacturers.

They are not remotely comparable vehicles

One is barely above entry level - the other is a Prestige Brand.
Over the years - many entry level vehicle could be equipped to compete with more prestigious Brands - but in reality they miss the point entirely -

Few people actually get their cars anywhere near the Upper end of their capabilities - but a Kia simply is for a person who wants to brag about performance - but cannot afford the Prestige brand.

The Telluride fully loaded is over 40K. The fully loaded version is outselling the base model. I believe if they wanted they could buy a Lexus LX or Infiniti FX. So thats not true. Besides the Tellurise is outselling the lower cost Sorento. If people bought a Kia because they cant afford a Prestige brand then why isnt the Rio Kia's best selling model?
