Jim Farley, is not shying away from comparing the upcoming electric car to Tesla.

Jim Farley, Ford’s new CEO, claims that the Mach-E will be a true competitor to Tesla. He said in an interview with Detroit Free Press:

Yes. He is right. The Mach E is somewhat affordable as are the 3 and Y. It's definitely desirable.

The sin that affordable EVs like the Spark EV, 500e, and Golf e made is that nothing about them was desirable and people understood they were ICE vehicles with batteries bolted in. As for the Bolt, it feels like a Sonic with batteries bolted in and is in no way special.

If you drive a Tesla people know you're driving an EV. The ones mentioned do not convey that. Thus with the Mach E, people know you're driving an EV because everyone has heard of the controversial crossover Mustang EV and it is emblematic of being an EV driver.
