Ford Says Don't Hold Your Breath Waiting For An Electric Super Duty F-Series

While Ford’s F-150 is slated for electrification, Super Duty versions of the F-Series are not. On Monday, the automaker told industry analysts that HD EVs weren’t in the cards — adding that customers can still expect all-electric versions of the Mach-E “Mustang” and Transit van.

“Our goal is to build a profitable electric vehicle portfolio,” John Lawler, Ford chief financial officer, explained during the forum hosted by Dan Levy of Credit Suisse. “To do that, we need to leverage our strengths and the scale that we have. We’re being very strategic about the platforms that we choose.”

Makes sense. The Super Duty series of trucks are frequently up fitted with power eating addons. Think snow plows, salters, cherry pickers, etc.

not only that, toss a bunch batteries to already heavy vehicle and you lose payload/towing capacity and you’d also likely get into/near commercial license territory for many heavy towing applications like a toy hauler/5th wheel.

If they make the electric F150 powerful enough, they may be able to shrink their heavy duty line. A top of the line Cybertruck specs closer to a F250. With a double-stacked battery, there should be plenty of range, even for towing on the F150.

not being argumentative but the CT doesn’t have any specs listed yet to justify that claim. The weight of the CT needs to be known before we know what the real tow/payload ratings are. It’s going to be heavy so that weight could put it in the same class as a 3/4 ton but the real world towing limits will likely have it competitive in the 1/2 ton range. Range towing who knows.

On the high end CT, weight is around 7,000 lbs, towing capacity is 14,000+ lbs, range will be well over 500 miles without a trailer.
