Land Rover Defender Will Have An Optional V8 - Will Ford Finally Answer With A V-8 Bronco?
We fnally have a new Land Rover Defender in the United States, but it's been missing something near and dear to America's heart: A sufficiently rowdy V8 engine. Those of you who've been waiting patiently since V8 Defender rumors started to surface finally have some scrumptious new meat to gnaw on: Motor Trend reports that a V8 is heading to the short-wheelbase, two-door Land Rover Defender 90.

Doubtful...if the F150 raptor doesn't have a V8, I doubt the bronco will get one.

So much for being popular....my friend just traded in his Porsche Macan for an $80,000 Defender and he basically got $15,000 off sticker - if you count the discount Land Rover in Fairfield County Connecticut gave him off the top plus the crazy trade-in deal they gave him on his Macan.

Guess demand is cooling?

He is going to be bitching to high heaven when the quality woes come to roost.

$15,000 off sticker on introduction is indication moving Defenders not going well from outset. Broncos will likely sell at full list and maybe over for select models on introduction in comparison.

Our plan with the Bronco is to have a demonstrator for people who want to drive one before placing orders, but we have firm orders backed with real money for our initial allotment so incoming will not hit the lot and most decidedly will not be used for test drives.

If the Defender were a Honda Element revival, Honda would be rolling in the orders. It's kind of like how Cherokee loyalists want nothing to do with the Fiatokee...it wears the name but is not the real deal.

Land Rover blew it. The Defender is (1) $20K overpriced at base and (2) it needed to be a Wrangler. If it looked like a Defender and started under $30K like the Wrangler, it would have been a sorely needed hit for JLR.

Nailed it - Tata should have built the new Defender in India at a Tata plant and sold it as a $30,000 to $45,000 stripped down vehicle without any "off road computers".

Why the hell do SUV manufacturers load up on the computing power that is not used by anyone. If somebody needs an 'off-road computer' to drive off road...they should just stay at the mall.

There is way too much tech (which often doesn't work) in Land Rover products that is completely unnecessary.
