PR by who? Tesla has nothing to do with this. The cars are bought at full price by the TLC and converted to taxis, much like the Tesla police cars.

Actually - manufacturers have to apply to the TLC to get their vehicle certified as a yellow cab.

So this was mostly likely Tesla's TLC prototype for TLC certification.

Once the vehicle is approved, then the owner/operator can choose that vehicle...there used to be only one certified, the crummy Nissan NV200 minivan..but its since been opened up...however still a regulated process...

Who takes a cab anymore? It's more expensive, less reliable, odds are the car will be disgusting and the guy will drive like an idiot and it will be way less convenient to find a ride when you need it. Otherwise it's a great option.

I could have sworn you said you loved taking cabs in NYC because you like to spend the time stuck in traffic thinking about what the dried DNA stains looked like.
