BMW Releases The Cavalry - i4 To Lead The Charge Of 6 New EV Cars
The arrival of the new iX3 sees BMW tap into a potentially lucrative, but ultimately safe sector of the electric car market, with battery-powered SUVs growing in popularity. However, the firm’s next steps to expand its EV line-up will be far more adventurous, because we know that six new electric BMWs are on the horizon. These will include all-new models and electric versions of firm favourites, part of BMW’s promise to have 12 new EVs on sale by 2025.

Reskin a 3 Series....bolt in batteries...pretend it's all new.

How soon until Toyota absorbs BMW?

They are just putting battery powertrains in existing vehicles. This will be a failure because the lack of an optimized platform will lead to high curb weights and low range.

It is becoming obvious that BMW (and Mercedes) do not have the resources to develop proper EVs on their own...both will need to forge deep alliances with other automakers. VW is getting there, their first generation looks to be decent and they will likely be on par with Tesla by the time their second generation models come to market.

Don't believe for a second that they don't have the resources, they are just not willing to commit them, still.

It's perfectly fine to assume people want conventional-looking EVs, but as has been said, without a purposefully built platform, the design will be compromised.

VW should sell the ID3 in the USA as the Golf. Given how terrible Golf sales are and how ugly-faced the new one is, the ID3 could probably double sales. It looks conventional but is purposefully designed as an EV.

MDarringer , skipping cars all together and going to the iD4 instead. VW has already not bringing the regular Mk8 Golf and just bringing the better selling GTI and R models only.
