Corvette Production Grinds To A Halt As Mexican Suppliers Deal With COVID

General Motors is stopping production of the Chevrolet Corvette for the rest of the week after Mexican suppliers once again found themselves having to contend with the pandemic. While Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen unit has been given the go ahead to begin late stage trials for its coronavirus vaccine in Mexico, the nation has introduced new restrictions as the country reported a spike in infections last month.

On Wednesday, GM spokesman David Barnas informed The Detroit News that Bowling Green Assembly in Kentucky will be closed for Veterans Day but remain closed through the weekend due to supply chain issues. The manufacturer does not see this as turning into a prolonged idle period for the Corvette, but we’re wondering about other models — and not just those manufactured by General Motors. While Mexican suppliers are supposed to rebound swiftly, Europe has also instituted new lockdowns that could affect supply chains if they’re extended.

Yes, the "black death plague" that has a 99.7% recovery rate, unless you're obese, smoke, are over 70 or otherwise susceptible to any disease... Glad Quid Pro Joe is already talking about shutting down the entire nation because 10M globally have had it (.03% of the US Population).... do that and it destroys all jobs, retirement $, savings, there will be no groceries, no anything... except the government....

@xjug he will follow "the science" not scientists. Haven't you heard the fascists talking about "the science" rather than "science"?

Also Dr Emanuel on Biden's scientific panel says we will provide other countries vaccine before all Americans receive their shots. He is the same "expert" who under past administration said "All people 75 years and older have no value, are a drain on society and should die" rather than be covered by universal medical coverage. Either he will feel differently should he reach 75 or he will rely on his "democratic party privilege."

So Biden campaigns for a gets a lot of senior citizen votes on the promise to do a better job with the virus. The virus that has them all worrying since if they get it they stand a higher chance of dying from it, or should hospitals get over run with it, they will be on the death list, i.e. no admittance. Then he goes out and appoints an advisor who says to them "drop dead". Does that mean if Biden or Pelosi get it, it's curtains for them?

News Flash. Per CNBC Besides Zeek above another member's view "Dr. Michael Osterholm, a coronavirus advisor to President-elect Joe Biden, said a nationwide lockdown would help bring the virus under control in the U.S." "Shutting down businesses and paying people for lost wages for four to six weeks could help keep the coronavirus pandemic in check"

@Vette71...What would be the economic impact of a complete shutdown? Covering wages is only a small portion. Consider supply chain shut down issues, stopping and restarting factory costs, lost corporate revenues impact on shutting down research, capital spending and contributions to employer funded benefits. If people took reasonable precautions a shutdown would not be necessary but because some have to party and refuse to not wear masks the spread continues and both the economy and individuals on the fringes will suffer.

"Does that mean if Biden or Pelosi get it, it's curtains for them?" We can only hope and pray that they get COVID and die.

@PP Completely agree with you. We cannot shut down the economy. The solution has to be balanced. What is alarming is that Biden has selected these individuals with extreme positions to advise him as to what to do. Economics is a science as well so he needs to listen to them. Fauci at least gets that.
