At Only $70,000 Is Rivians's R1S SUV The Bargain Of The EV Market?

The Rivian R1S has been somewhat of a sleeper model living in the shadows of the R1T pickup truck, but the electric SUV’s production version is now being unveiled starting at $70,000 and could be coming for the luxury market.

While Rivian has been distancing itself from a luxury branding and instead focusing on “adventure,” the R1S electric SUV seems to fit right in with vehicles like the Cadillac Escalade or Lincoln Navigator.

And now that Rivian has unveiled its final pricing and configurations for the first version of the R1T and R1S, the price also fits the luxury segment.

Looks like a winner, but they have been talking about this for about 2 years not and they do not even have a working prototype. They have big time backing, but still have not been able to show working vehicles.

They've had working prototypes of both R1S and R1T for well over a year. Covid delayed their launch date. Rivian won't bow to the pressure of early release with a flawed product (ala Tesla) They don't have to as the have no public shareholders to answer to (Tesla). Rivian is the real deal and will likely be the new standard. No lingering pension or healthcare costs, no union....

Will be ready for a refresh by the time it actually comes out. Tesla will have moved on to flying taxis.

Exactly that. Rivian is a scam. Ford fell for it and then went "Oh shit! They're swindling us."

This is exactly what Tesla needed -a big box SUV for peeps like me. Not everyone wants the cramped turtle CUV offerings that offer no cargo space or compromised rear headroom. Huge market waiting to be tapped.

I find it truly perplexing that neither the X nor the Y looks like an SUV.

Exactly, some us are willing to give up a little range so as to not look like we're driving a suppository.
