Will Biden Ban Fracking, Driving Up The Cost Of Oil And Forcing You Into An Unwanted EV?
Assuming that the various challenges being filed by President Donald Trump this week to election results in several states fail and Democrat Joe Biden does become the next President of the United States, the potential impacts to the oil and gas industry in the U.S. would be numerous and severe. While only one significant oil and gas-related issue was raised to high prominence during the general election campaign - Biden’s promises to ban hydraulic fracturing at various times and levels - it is a mistake to assume that that would be the only way in which a Biden/Harris Administration would impact the industry.

Who says an EV is unwanted? The current low cost of fuel of course makes the economics harder for the EV, but it's tough to move back to an engine driven car after driving an EV. Even with my PHEV, I work as hard as I can to keep the ICE off. I can't do it when it's cold, as my Niro doesn't have a heat pump. But I'll never switch back to a conventional gas/diesel powered car as my primary vehicle. My plan is full EV when my lease is up.

The free market and the historically inept response to the pandemic -- more relevantly, our leaders deliberately causing an economic collapse -- will do far more harm to fracking than Old Joe ever will.
Gonna be a long time before oil rises in price to where it was a year or two ago.
BYW: How are the true mass market EVs doing? The one's costing ~$25k? I mean, that is a thing? Mass market EVs?

Gas prices (at about $2.50/gallon for 91 unleaded) have been basically unchanged for the past 10 to 20 years (in real terms) and have basically declined a huge % in inflation adjusted terms over the past 20 years.

The Biden Administration should immediately put in place a phased gas/fuel tax and allocate all that money to Capital projects that improve the roads and bridges in the US. Gas Prices could easily be $5.00/gallon before people seriously started considering buying EV's as a replacement.

The highest average prices ever for unleaded gasoline were in the summer of 2008, with national prices for unleaded averaging $4.11 per gallon. That was when we saw the popularity of hybrids broaden.

If someone can't afford gas, they will downgrade to a cheaper 'gas' car first (perahps even a used one) before they buy a 'new' EV.

Going EV is not a solution if transportation gets expensive. If you are a family who lives near the poverty line (that's about 15% of Americans) you do not have the mobility to trade your gas guzzling beater in for an EV.

The official poverty measure is determined by a household's pre-tax income; for example, in 2016, a family of four earning less than $24,339 would be considered poor. From 1980 to 2014, the number of people living in poverty in the United States grew from about 29.3 million to 46.7 million.

Like many liberal ideas, the notion of going EV to save money is a highly flawed concept.

1) Anytime there is a tax put in place for a specific cause, the politicians find a way to siphon the money for something else
2) There is taxes on fuel for state and local roads. How is that working out?

1) I agree. They can't keep their fingers off of designated funds.

2) It works, but with the increased fuel economy of newer cars, less driving because of COVID, plug-in vehicles using less fuel, and the fact those state taxes haven't been adjusted (in some cases) for more than 15 years, the actual funds collected is insufficient to maintain the existing infrastructure, let alone adding or improving it.

Correction: Dems want to hand out money and goods to keep stupid people voting their way.

"Paying reparations" is code speak for buying votes.

Dems love prosperity. But they only want it for themselves. That's how the Biden Crime Family got rich over the years.

The dhims are the party of the "good for me, not for thee". They take their private jets, vacation on their luxury yachts, and live large at the the expense of the general public, all the while passing laws that lower the quality of life for the average person. We will be seeing this in action as BLM, Elizabeth Sanders, Bernie Sanders and Kamala Harris enact their policies.

My next vehicle will likely be an EV, though it won't be due to gas prices. Rather, electric is just a superior technology. If Biden has enough legal votes to be elected president, he'll be under tremendous pressure by his fellow Democrats to end the United States energy independence, in which case the rest of the country will look more like California with third-world style rolling blackouts and brown outs. No doubt, he'll look to further increase the cost of fuel by adding additional federal taxes. All of which further erodes the American standard of living. And if Dems are successful, we'll finally have the equality of results they're pursuing as everyone will be equally lacking in prosperity, with the notable exception of the ruling elite, of course.

No EV for me. I have no desire to wait around for a charge. I like to gas up and go.

-Fracking will continue - when and it the price of oil rises
-Keystone XL will continue to be built
-Americans may even start wearing masks when they go out
-Vaccines will come out but it will take over 1 year to distribute to everyone
-BEV sales in large numbers are still a long way off
-You will be posting more about cars as your new President won't tweet daily

Biden is only banning fracking on federal land. It's a tiny percentage of the total. Relax.

He won't outright ban it, but he will regulate it out of existence much like Obama did to the coal industry. Stop new pipelines to hinder delivery (Sorry CC but Keystone is already a target), clamp down on drilling emissions, etc. etc.

-Americans do wear masks. Apparently Canada has quite the Covid problem and it's growing.
-Biden will cave to the extreme left AOC/Antifa wing of the party and ban all fossil fuels if they win the Senate
-Slow Joe and his supporters are going to demand vaccines be delivered and exported to other countries before Americans are allow to have them. The globalists will be firmly in control. Death to America you know.
-Slow Joe won't be tweeting unless Kamala allows him to do so. He will need to ask for permission from Kamala just to go to the loo.
