Daimler Boss Says Move To EVs Will Cause Company To Shrink In Size And Shed Jobs

According to Daimler CEO Ola Kaellenius, his company will look different than it does now, within the next five years. For starters, it will shrink as it seeks to redefine luxury in an era of fully electric and self-driving cars.

Moving forward from internal combustion engine vehicles will also result in job losses, seen as how it takes less time and effort to build an electric car than a conventional gasoline or diesel one.

Corporate speak for we don't have sufficient cash, resources or margins to develop EV's while maintaining our current broad line of vehicles so we will resize and redefine the company. They want to be the type of company they once were (limited model range, high prices and margins, premium image)and not chase volume in every segment like recent past. A 180 degree change. There will be plenty of pain getting there.

Actually they’re not, Daimler Benz didn’t form until 1926. The oldest is Peugeot.

Wrong again, while the NAME Daimler-Benz was not formed until 1962, THE BRAND had been around since 1886 as court documents and records show...do better research next time

Daimler, Benz, Mercedes-Benz, Daimler Benz are all representative of Benz restructuring & reorganizing it’s self over its 130 plus year history

Class will resume tomorrow at 8:30am sharp, please read chapters 8-10 on why Benz Wins

Sorry they were 2 separate companies until the merged in 1926. Which really doesn’t matter as Peugeot was founded in 1810.

Wrong again Peugot made coffee mills and bicycles in 1810 and did not make their first automobile until 1889, 3 years after Benz debut

No matter how you chop it or flip it, Benz is credited for the invention of the automobile, thanks for playing

There will be a great number of jobs lost and plants close. Not just at MB but across Europe. It won't happen all at once, but over the next 10 years there will be a lot of transformation in the auto industry.

If they only kept their shares in Tesla, they could have more than needed.

I think Tesla's Berlin factory is going to really shock the German car manufacturers.

That means there will be a cascading effect for Merecedes part suppliers, dealer franchises too! No good for the economy overall!
