Volkswagen CEO Admits They Are In A Race To Catch Up With Tesla

The Volkswagen Group just announced that it is accelerating its investments in software, electric vehicles, and self-driving technology and it is not shying away from the fact that its goal is to catch up to Tesla.

Herbert Diess, CEO of the Volkswagen Group, has been one of the executives from legacy automakers most realistic about the transition to electric vehicles.

He has shown respect for Tesla’s lead in the market and he has put specific plans in place for the German automaker to catch up, like setting up a new team for software and self-driving.

Easier said than done, legacy automakers have a tough road ahead if they can't source the EV and FSD hardware/software.

like GM, VW expected some kind of "race to catch-up" at this point. both automakers took a spectator seat while watching Tesla ramp-up operations & production. they studied what went right aa well as what went wrong.

they also waited to see how the EV trend would mature. Would the cheaper Tesla's meet mild demand? Now, they fully understand that is REAL pinned-up demand for EV's of all sizes & pricing levels. It just depends on what country or market that will determine a mix of what products get produced.

The future of not just VW but also Germany is on the line if consumers continue to reject EVs. That’s why they are trying to Social Engineer acceptance of EVs through legislation instead of letting the consumer market decide.

I daily drive a modest EV, enjoy a NA ICE 6MT toy for the weekend. There is place in this world for an EV. Don't need to force it. It's the logical choice once you own one.
