THE PURGE: Which Automakers Aren't Going To Be Around In 2030?

PSA Group head honcho Carlos Tavares went on record saying that he expects more consolidation within the car industry going forward, as companies continue to invest large sums of money in electric mobility.

 

During the Reuters Automotive Summit teleconference, he also predicted that not all carmakers are going to make it through the coming decade.

There will be significant upheaval. A more encompassing heading I believe would be which automobile companies will no longer be independent, which brands will no longer exist and which models will be discontinued? For example...Aston-Martin will no longer be an independent company, Fiat as a brand will no longer exist and the Camaro model line will be discontinued.

What is preventing the consolidation of these firms in part is the policies of governments were they have an HQ or a plant. Nobody wants to see job losses on their watch as job holders are voters and taxpayers. So a subsidy gets thrown at them and they continue on.

If you want to open a plant or re-open an old one or close one to make your business more efficient, firms should be left alone to do so. No funding or subsidies either way.
