American Built Subaru Ascent May Be Coming To Japan

Japan isn't a big market for large vehicles, but as of late, increasingly more Japanese automakers have decided to sell American-built automobiles in their home market following specific US-Japan trade agreements. Subaru has recently announced that its Ascent people carrier may hit showrooms in the Land of the Rising Sun in the second half of 2026 under the umbrella of the Trans-Pacific Partnership, but why is that?
Even though Subaru knows that consumer demand for such a vehicle is pretty low in said part of the world, US-Japan motor vehicle trade provisions have created new opportunities for United States-based automobile manufacturers in Japan. To make a long story short, Japan agreed to eliminate its complex bureaucratic rules and hidden regulatory barriers that historically blocked American vehicle imports from entering its domestic market.
