Is The All-New Lincoln Continental THIS Good Or Is This Review A Bit...Ridiculous?

Is The All-New Lincoln Continental THIS Good Or Is This Review A Bit...Ridiculous?
Not too often, but every once and a while I read an automotive review. I have a couple reasons for this.

Primarily, most reviews today suck and are written by a bunch of hacks that care about one thing only — the next trip. Even worse, sometimes there's some sort of pretentious undertone implied by these people who don't even own their own vehicle and can speak about a proper owner experience. Rather than tell the story of the car, these guys and girls would rather insert themselves into the story at any given moment. Personally, my favorites are the writers attempting their best Jeremy Clarkson impression.

Tonight though I stumbled across an interesting one, however. That would be a Business Insider story published about the all-new Lincoln Continental. From what we've been seeing there's tremendous interest in this product.

But I have to be straightforward here. I found the production vehicle that made its debut on the auto show circuit to be rather unimpressive with its cheap-y interior.

Apparently one writer doesn't have any constructive criticism for our friends in Dearborn. The "review" is dripping of things like this:

...Wood trim is subdued, but it exudes quality. You could be excused for thinking you had been transported into a Bentley...

If this writer ever has been in a Bentley, shame on him.

All that said, I wanted to get the Spies' opinions on the matter. Is the all-new Lincoln Continental THIS good or is this particular reviewer playing this up?

Even if you tone the rave reviews down by 20%, the new Continental still made quite an impression on the writer. But I always thought MDarringer sells car, I didn't know he moonlights as a writer for Business Insider under the name of Matthew DeBord :-)

Ignoring the reviewer, this car is good new for Lincoln! If its build quality holds up to its looks, then it'll be REALLY good for Lincoln. I would have preferred it without the Acura-like "I am tech, hear me roar" headlights, but I'm still giving it kudos.

Looks like an honest review by a reviewer who appreciates Lincoln & Cadillac but knows there are "fundamental" differences with BMWs & M-Bs of similar sizes/categories. The new Lincoln Continental is "drivers' car" less oriented towards the rear seat rider like a Bentley Flying Spur - which is a bit more "grander". Overall, it's a good adaptation of the same platform shared with the Ford Taurus.

Seems like the Continental is geared to the subdued levels of luxury for quiet enjoyment. And that's Lincoln's typical consumer. Look at the MKZ for a more sporty Lincoln experience I guess.

The review could be ridiculous ... but this is no different when autospies writes about Audi.

It's a great car for those with a Chrysler 300M looking to upgrade. There will be initial hype and demand the first 12-18 months, for those looking for something different. Then it it sit on lots with huge discounts.

Which is true of all the premium sedans. This round however, BMW shot itself in the foot creating an opportunity for others.

I assume the "agents" who go on press junkets, publish 40 nearly identical pictures, and gush in their reviews are described in: "Primarily, most reviews today suck and are written by a bunch of hacks that care about one thing only — the next trip. As for the Lincoln, it is selling rapidly because of the intense interest in the product. Ford has done a much better job of disguising their Super Fusion than Honda has done with the Super Accord Acura RLX. It wouldn't surprise me if Cadillac's decision to continue the XTS rather than kill it as was planned has to do with the enthusiasm surrounding the Continental.

The build quality is nice and overall it is a package worthy of luring people away from the played-out Audi A6 and the all-new-still-old-looking BMW 5 Series.

No, Matt, we're not included in that.

You're free to go elsewhere if you don't like our reviews, btw. Or, I can help you with that myself considering you've become more of a menace to the community than a valued contributor.

Other than MDarringer's throwing rocks at planes, e.g. agents and pretty much anything that types, every now and again he does offer good input on articles. May I suggest you review how you present someone else's article? You open yourself to criticism with openers like the above.

I agree with AgentOOR, it is time to ban this slug - - - he has been warned enough times. His only contributions are his fact-less opinions and personal preferences which leads to guaranteed bullying of anyone who disagrees with him. The goal of all websites is to build a loyal readership and attract paid sponsorship/advertising, both of which are in decline thanks to Matt's unhinged triads.

It will be great for people shopping for a cushy car, but won't get that many sales.

Gorgeous inside. Outside there is something well done...looks like a luxury car without being to ostentatious, discrete.

saw a whole bunch at the dealership yesterday, looks REALLY good in person. gotta admit while it might not be something i choose over a cadillac, i think id take it over any acura/ buick/ huyundai ( sedan ) so at least its a start in the right direction.

The ONLY thing the Continental has to do is to get people talking about Lincoln again. It's succeeded there.

When one talks about the Ahmedabad escorts service, the person who listens can hardly control his pulping of his veins out of enthusiasm and curiosity.
