Tesla Dashcam Reveals The TRUTH About Multicar Accident

A Tesla owner recently tapped into the Model 3’s built-in dashcam feature to help authorities following a high-speed, multi-car collision. With the driver who caused the accident reportedly attempting to pass off a false narrative to authorities, it was ultimately the Model 3’s dashcam footage that provided a clear, objective account of the incident.

Tesla Model 3 owner and r/TeslaMotors member u/Adwah was driving on US Route 50, a few miles before the Eastern Shore Bridge in Maryland, when a Dodge Durango sped past the electric sedan, seemingly trying to use the merge lane to pass on the right. Following this incredibly reckless maneuver, the Dodge driver unsuccessfully attempted to thread the needle, hitting two vehicles and another Model 3 in the process.

Don't lie to the cops when a Model 3 is directly behind you (especially when you hit another Model 3)... from r/teslamotors

Tesla did not invent the dashcam. There are literally about 100 sites of dashcam footage just from Russia and predating Tesla altogether. You guys try awfully hard to credit Tesla, perhaps overcompensating.
Tesla is down today on news that Tesla will miss on delivery targets and especially concerning revenue, as S and X sales are down down sharply and Model 3 sales are skewing toward lower priced versions. Looks like a loss of $300 million in second quarter.
Roh-roh.

Tesla has a built-in dashcam. I don't know of many, or any, other brands who have built-in dashcams. Just another reason to buy this beautiful brand of car.

The original statement about being the first with a dashcam, however the Model 3 has several cameras that can be used to together to paint the real picture. This alone should decrease the fraudulent insurance claims against the model 3 owners. However it can also document flaws in the autopilot software equally thus liability in case of a defect.

It's not just that Tesla has an 8-camera dashcam standard on all their new cars... this was an OTA update. Every car built in the last 3 years got a free dashcam upgrade (minus the $10 USB stick you have to plug in).

This is also used for Sentry mode, when you are away from your car it records any funny business around your car on all 8 cameras... also a free OTA upgrade for anyone with a 3-year old Tesla or newer.

No other brand of cars have gotten this much better over time, for free. Safety, performance, range, tech features, and convenience have all been upgraded via OTA and the 2012 Model S is STILL getting upgrades today.

And despite the accidents, it is still twice as safe and continues to improve with every release. There will always be some accidents, the cameras help determine what went wrong. You try programming a computer to understand the world around you with just vision, it's not an easy task otherwise everyone would have done it by now.

I'm less concerned about what car the footage was taken from. It's a non-issue for me (though it's good that this footage was taken). I see morons driving like this everyday and I take pleasure in them receiving justice for their recklessness.

We use several resources daily, and none are for pay. You see probably a tesla post a day simply because they are doing more than most and at a much faster development rate. Simply put they are pushing a slow moving industry forward, much like wireless did to the telecom market or Apple did to the smartphone market.

I see far more than one post per day and they are all from fanboy EV sites such as insideEVs and Teslarati.com. I would push back on your belief that they are pushing developing development faster than anyone else. Elon is making outlandish claims faster than anyone else.

They are obviously developing faster than anyone else. They have done more in seven years than most brands have done in the last four generations. If you look at any auto publication, Tesla is getting the bulk of the attention right now for a reason (not always a good one).

@SJD But if the technology is still shit, then producing shit at a faster rate is not something to be proud of.

It's shit in your opinion, but not the opinion of those that actually own one and some general common sense. You can't argue with Tesla's performance or range. They are ahead of the class across the board. The infotainment system is easily best in class, and despite all the bickering here Autopilot is a better system than any other driver assist solution so far (except for Waymo).

Tesla invented the 200 mile+ EV. Fun fact, the 2012 ORIGINAL Model S still has more range than any other EV made by any other manufacturer. That's how far ahead they are in the EV game right now.

So Jazzyjazz, did Panasonic develop the first 200 mile+ EV?

Funny, I haven't seen any Panasonic sedans on the road recently.

Cell chemistry was jointly developed by Tesla and Panasonic, and the cell is one of a thousand different variables in making a car that can go over 200 miles and not cost a fortune. There are still 0 non-Tesla cars on the road that can beat the 2012 Model S' range.
