FCA Resurrects The Voyager Name As A Low Cost Minivan

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is resurrecting the Voyager nameplate for a lower-priced version of the 2020 Chrysler Pacifica that targets entry-level buyers.

The Plymouth Voyager, one of two minivans, along with the Dodge Caravan, was launched by Chrysler in the 1984 model year, creating one of the industry's most successful product segments. The Voyager nameplate was transferred to the Chrysler brand when Plymouth was discontinued, and dropped altogether in 2003.

Smart move. FWD or AWD minivan with snow tires will get you and the family everywhere you need to be. Far more practical than any SUV as well.

More like a flailing move. The Pacifica NEVER lived up to sales projections as evidenced by the old Caravan staying in production. So putting the Voyager name on a failed minivan will not have magical results.

I don’t see that necessary. Just make a cheaper Pacifica, not like it’s perceived as something premium anyways.

If anything, they should discontinue the current Caravan. I had a rental recently and was really surprised how dated it is and still being sold.

This just allows Chrysler to have another model. Since they're dropping the 300, they need something to justify having a different brand.

Currently the Dodge Caravan - which is not advertized - outsells the Pacifica. Since a lot of these sales are Commercial Sales - especially as School Transportation - it makes sense to have lower level vehicles for those Customers

The Pacifica WAS intended to be a Higher Line car than the Caravan - and it was priced that way and Equipped that way as well. AND - it also had an Independent Rear end that the Caravan did not have. The Pacifica does indeed ride better than the Caravan - although I own one of these and I do not see any Major Difference between the Caravan and the Pacifica in the interior except the Dash.

I actually really love mine (Mine is a Chrysler Town and Country) and am Planning a long road trip in it this Winter before I trade it in for another. The advantage of being able to transport lots of Grandchildren - and then WITHOUT having to store the seats somewhere - simply folding down the seats - and getting a 4x8 piece of plywood inside with the tailgate closed. No SUV offers this type of Utility and I have no problem averaging over 30mpg on the Interstates.

What I do think though - is that they are using the Voyager name in order to eventually get rid completely of DODGE - and putting the rest of the cars under the CHrysler name

I agree 100% on the 4x8 plywood and the great highway mpg of the minivans. What really stopped me from buying one was the poor safety ratings. Looking at the crash test videos was enough.

What is so DESPERATELY needed at Chrysler is a large, 3 row crossover. One should have been pulled off the Pacifica by now.
