Can YOU Guess WHICH Vehicle With A Sub 50k MSRP Is Selling USED For OVER Original MSRP At Dealer Auctions?
It's not uncommon for hot vehicles to sell for over MSRP at the wholesale dealer auctions for limited, short run editions like a Shelby, BMW M1, etc.

But what IS odd, is for a mainstream brand with below average cachet, to command OVER the original MSRP for a USED version.

Have you guessed which brand/model it is yet?

Put your seatbelts on...

It's the KIA Telluride!

Check out this one that just sold for close to 10k OVER MSRP USED!

And it's only the FWD version, not the fully loaded AWD version!

Are worlds colliding?

Tell us WHY you think this is happening? What does it have that is making people step up this high?

Spies, discuss...

We have them for almost no time on the lot. We don't mark up. They sell at list. This is a massive home run.

Back in 2015 I got one of the first Mustang GTs that came in and a guy in a parking lot offered me $10K over. Shortly thereafter, the car was his. I got the car for the real invoice and sold it for full list plus $10K.

Crazy impatient people everywhere. I suppose as long as they have money and want to waste it who are we to judge :)

I too am having a problem with this thread

Unless I was a dealer with a customer that wanted it that badly - I don't think "DEALERS" will buy a used car at Auction for 10K over MSRP - especially not a Kia dealer who buy at real invoice - Do you realize just how much you would have to sell that car for to make a small profit - Maybe $70,000 or more. How are you going to get Floor Planning on that?

I think you would have a problem selling a new one in that price range - and this would still be a USED car.

The LA dealers are selling the loaded SX AWD units for 10 over. NOT kidding. Call Downtown Kia LA and ask.

Telluride is great but that's just nuts.

I agree 100%. I love my Telluride loaner, but $10K over its sticker is Mercedes territory. Now granted, the Telluride is surprisingly premium for a mainstream car, but reality is reality.

Mine at $10K over list would be $61K

There will be plenty of buyers remorse when trade in time comes around for paying over list.

I would assume that for people who want a car that badly - the price is not the issue. IT is really amazing just how many people out there making big money who will overspend for all sorts of things - including clothes and Meals.

And for them - they have the money - they want something - they get it. While the average guy cannot afford the payments.

And this too will change.

As everyone seems to "know a guy" who can get them a car at the auction, I would think this was bought at the auction to keep and not to resell.

Please elaborate. Where is the Kia Telluride auction???

@MD- The article clearly states this price comes from a unit that was up for sale at a wholesale dealer auction.

The auction was Manheim. And yes, many people pay brokers to buy them cars at auction and pay them a fee. Been happening for years and arguably, most vehicles sold nowadays there are to brokers for retail customers.

This is an anomaly as the Helluride will fade as quickly as pogs once owners start complaining about the poor build quality and noisy ride.

That's your racism talking. Why do you hate Koreans? Kias have great build quality and the Telluride is rather quiet and silky.

It is a great vehicle, probably the best in its class but to pay 10K over sticker for a vehicle that will be manufactured in the 100K units a year range is foolish. On a side note too Kia...put that turbo V6 in this thing as an optional engine!

It's because of the idiot millennial marketers that created that show vignette of the Telluride all butched out like it was going on the cover of Sunset Magazine where a gynocentric stereotype of masculinity is presented and which emasculates. The vignette was asinine and ridiculous, but the racists here who hate Koreans keep pointing to that because they don't have the balls to be directly racist, so they are passive-aggressively racist instead.
