The 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 Gets A Price And It Just MAY Surprise You...
For the 2020 model year, Ford is providing us with a gift.

Well, at least that's how I see the all-new Ford Mustang Shelby GT500. That's because it is the most powerful Mustang to ever exist. Boasting a supercharged V8 good for 760 horsepower, it's going to be bonkers.

There's simply no other word for it.

Since we heard a GT500 was coming back, we've been wondering how much Ford would charge for what's sure to be insane performance. Well, that day has come, Spies.

This week Ford announced its base price will be under 71 large at $70,300*. If you go all out though, you're looking at just about $97,000.

*Price does not include title, taxes and fees.



The 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 will offer 760 horsepower for a starting price of $73,995. That includes a $2600 gas-guzzler tax, and it makes this supercharged V-8 Mustang $12,460 more expensive than the Shelby GT350. The base price is just the start, though: With its big-hitter Carbon Fiber Track package added, the GT500 tops $90,000, making it the most expensive factory street-legal Mustang ever made...

Reputable dealers won't sell you one because they have people lined up to cover their allotment. Based on what we've been told, we're sold out. Disreputable dealers will throw $50K onto the price. If you like being cash raped--and what Tesla owner doesn't?--see one of those dealers.

...cash raped... that’s a little harsh/immature. Just supply & demand, like any auction or buying real estate. Besides, most dealers will negotiate. And if they don’t, find one that will. How far you will go and how long it will take is up to the individual. What is your time worth to you?

Tesla on the other hand is selling at MSRP, so that’s “reputable”? And you are saying Tesla owners like to be cash rapped? Not sure what you are trying to say.

I wouldn’t buy a Tesla because of their bait and switch pricing.

Back in the spring of '72 I had a '67 Shelby GT 500 to drive for several months. I can't remember the details of why I had it, especially as a 17 year old kid, but man that was a fun drive. 120 MPH down Interstate 5 heading for the Oregon coast and that car felt like it was loafing. 428ci, dual quad, the lime metallic green color. Of course, gas was about 40 cents a gallon back then as well.

If it had the 428 CobraJet it was probably a GT500KR. Sweet car.

I bought a GT500KR that was in horrible condition, but was running and complete and restored it.

I've built several Bullitt replicas for people which is easy. Green 68 GT, 390, Bullitt wheels. #done

I was also recently successful in tracking down my first Mustang a 71 Grande that I junked and apparently someone threw an engine in it and kept it going. How anyone could be that desperate I'll never know. It looked pretty much as I saw it last: horrible. I haven't decided whether I will restore it faithfully or restore it but keep the mismatched interior. When I got it as a teenager (and drove it without a license until I turned 16), the interior was shot, so I went to the junk yard and got seats and door panels from a totally different color Mustang and switched them out. To my knowledge, Ford never mixed green and orange.

I believe the KR version started with 1968. This was absolutely a 428. Sweet engine.

The 67 Mustang had a 427 option and the 68 had a 428. He said it had a 428. Made me wonder whether it was a KR and not a 67.

As much as I hate to admit it - I too "restored" a 1967 Mustang GT500 428 with one of my kids for him. We bought it from a private person who had crashed it - but kept it and never got around to fixing it. - THe engine was out in pieces - but had the right numbers - but we had no transmission match. We did a first class job restoring it - probably spent way too much money to do it - and later he sold it for more than it listed for new.

One thing I do remember was that this was NOT a car you wanted to have to drive in the WINTER on snow. It was really hard to keep the rears from spinning.

We take the cars to the "rotisserie" level usually but not always. The GT500KR I found for $2500 was from a guy who wanted to sell it to get a Civic. We tore it fully down and started from scratch. The engine--fortunately--was rebuildable. The interior was largely reproduction parts. When it was finished i decided to keep it and exasperated my benefactor by selling an E Type to make room for the Shelby.

@MD - Do you replace the drop in gas tank when you do a restoration? IE with a racing gas tank that I see in other builds? I have read the Mustang was known for fires and killing/maiming occupants when hit from behind. Being that it was a cheaply built car back in the day this is not a surprise. Nobody else seemed to copy this drop in gas tank idea either.
