What you and most of the fanboys do not understand is that the large automakers had nothing to gain from jumping on the electric car bandwagon. Look at the debt tesla has taken on and will continue to take on until their stock collapses below $150/share and the pieces - namely the brand recognition - for a song. There is no technology Elon has that other automakers do not have access to if they wanted.
As a shareholder I want them to wait until demand is established - still a question - and acceptance and costs can deliver an ROI.
