Alpina Builds A 460HP i8 And BMW Promptly Shuts It Down
If BMW releases a new and exciting model, you can bet your bottom dollar that Alpina will look to create its own version of it and bring it to the market. According to Alpina chief executive Andreas Bovensiepen, this was almost the case with the BMW i8.

Jalopnik recently had the opportunity to sit down with Bovensiepen in Munich, Germany and discovered that rumors of Alpina creating a four-cylinder i8 were true.

Love the Alpina models...however without BMW there likely never would be an Alpina.

Despite the pretense of being its own company, Alpina is a trim level.

The i8 was kind of embarrassing for BMW and I suspect they weren’t ready for alpina to show them what they should’ve done from the gate performance wise

It is so odd and so confusing to the BMW brand and the consumer that BMW has both an "M" division and "Alpina". What point does Alpina serve.

The old ones are not even very collectible (as if that was BMW's goal). The new ones just look odd. It is so strange that the Alpina's are based off of the "luxury" BMW platforms - take the Alpina 7-series which has the "luxe" 750i's chrome all over it, except that it is painted a garish shade of blue or green.

Park an Alpina 7 next to an M760i and the Alpina screams "Pep-Boys".

Why?
