#FOS: De Tomaso Comes Alive, Again — Introduces All-new P72 To The World — Is It Doing ANYTHING For You?
In terms of automotive design, I think it's safe to say that we've been lacking a truly beautiful automobile. We've seen some really interesting vehicles and certainly some good looking ones.

But, a sensual and fluid design really hasn't graced our presence in some time.

2019 Goodwood Festival of Speed

Well, until now.

De Tomaso showed up to the 2019 Goodwood Festival of Speed with a real treat. Dubbed the P72, it is very clearly a V12-powered supercar — watch and listen to the video below. Its chassis is based on the Apollo IE. You know, that ghastly looking thing. This all adds up as the team behind Apollo are the same folks behind De Tomaso today.

The P72's retro-inspired design isn't the only thing that's a throwback, either. It will forego screens in favor of analog instruments on the inside. In addition, it will make use of a manual transmission.

The P72's pedigree is inspired by the Alejandro De Tomaso and Caroll Shelby vehicle, the P70.

According to the De Tomaso team, only 72 will be built for the price of 750,000 Euros (about $850,000 USD).

So, is it doing ANYTHING for you?

The unbelievably beautiful 2020 De Tomaso Project P stole a few hearts during its debut hillclimb at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

Between this and Pagani would rather have the latter.

Yeah but the Paganis price in about $2-5MM, so, this is a relative bargain...

It's very much borrowing cues from elsewhere making it a wannabe. The overall look is a forgettable cliche. This is rather terrible.

Can't please 'em all!

(1) I have taste and appreciation for fine motorcars.
(2) This isn't one of them.
(3) I'm not on the payroll.

The designer should hang his head in shame because this car is embarrassingly bad because it is so derivative and unimaginative.

All you really need to know about Matt's "taste" is he likes Jensens.

Fact is - this is still another car Matt will never have in his driveway
- and it is likely that most will be garaged into Collections and barely used.

I would agree with Matt and also say this:
I would LOVE to have a Pantera in my driveway!!!

Face it- if one of these showed up in your driveway - you probably would not complain as well

It looks over the top, as though they were trying too hard. I prefer the original Pantera.

Looks pretty good, although I think they should have projected more of the Pantera styling as it could have evolved to 2019.

Tom Tjaarda penned a modern Pantera a few years ago before he passed.

As noted above, this is inspired by the De Tomaso/Shelby P70, which looks NOTHING like a Pantera...

My point was that although overall I do like the design, I would have liked to see some Pantera styling cues in this car as the Pantera is much more widely known and associated with DeTomaso.

It reminds me of styling que's from an Alfa Romeo 8C. It's not unattractive. However I do not really see anything here that remotely reminds me of a Pantera at all.
