What Do YOU Think Is The GREATEST American Vehicle EVER Made?

What Do YOU Think Is The GREATEST American Vehicle EVER Made?
It was just the other day I asked you a very simple question: Which all-new American vehicle is YOUR favorite?

Although that was limited to autos you can go and purchase in a dealer today, I've been giving it thought. Let's open up the floodgates, Spies.

In honor of this rather American road trip weekend, we've got to ask a bigger question: WHICH American vehicle — of all time — is YOUR favorite?

We're asking you to dig deep on this. Was it the first-gen Ford Thunderbird? Perhaps the Jeep Wagoneer? Maybe the Dodge Viper or the second-gen Cadillac CTS-V? One could claim the Hummer H1 or perhaps the Willys Jeep?

What say you, Spies?

This will be controversial. ...but coming from a guy that has had a lot of cars in a lifetime, I vote for the Tesla Model S. Swift, silent, clean and starts every day with a "full tank", it is exactly what the world needs right now. We must set a course to reduce dramatically our use of fossil fuels - limited resource, local pollution, global impact - and this vehicle sets the standard for that future.

The Corvette, before the C8 comes out.

Of all time I would say the Auburn bobtail speedster... the later 30s models like this one < https://www.flickr.com/photos/auburnspeedster/38308673185 >. They stood toe to toe with the best in the world. We really have not competed on that level since the 30s with a couple of exceptions along the way such as the current Ford GT. Currently on sale, I would have to say either the Ford GT or the Tesla Model 3. The GT represents a kind of pinnacle of the Supercar built in the US. On the other hand the Model 3 is quite revolutionary and not just for it's EV powertrain alone. It is a breakthrough car on many levels from powertrain to auto pilot to how the AC vents are built.

There is no way to pick just one. The 16 cylinder Cadillacs from the 1930s were beautiful and were "the Standard of the World." The Ford Mustang may be the most popular US car in the world for its style, performance and value. It is quintessentially American.

Model T. Put America, put all Americans, put the world on wheels. Had the greatest impact.

THe Auburn was a Beautiful car - but it was designed to be a Baby Duesenberg - and its Lycoming 8 Cylinder supercharged engine put out 150 HP when the SSJ Duesenberg supercharged engine in 1936 was 4 valve OHC that put out over 400 HP.
Of course the Duesenberg had the cursed Non-Synchro 3 speed that doomed the brand because of the engine - no other trans could handle the power then. But Duesenberg's of that time mostly had custom Bodywork and there were some Boattails.

The Cadillac V-16 of the Era was simply two of their previous Straight 8 Cylinders - still OHV ut not OHC - and put out between 135 and 185 hp. Not really competitive to the Duesenbergs.

However - these were not mainstream Cars - and in Fact the Duesenberg in the 1930's cost over $15,000 at a time when the average DOCTOR made the staggering sum of $3,000 a year.

Even until the 1960's - -the American Cars led the world - A Mercedes of the 60's only had a 6 cylinder engine - compared to the big 8 cylinders of the Cadillac. And From the beginning through today - the American Car Industry has had a string of Firsts that cannot be matched by any other country. ANd Pugproud is correct - The Model T was the catalyst that started the Industrial age of its time- with assembly line production - and a cost that far more average Americans could afford. Without it -NONE of what we have today would have come as soon as it did. It was Black, Ugly, Basic, slow, but it was the spark - nothing else comes close

My vote goes to the 1966 to 1970 Oldsmobile Toronado. Truly unique and truly innovative.

A lot of really good suggestions. If we ere voting on greatest impact too, it would be the Model T. It changed modern transportation.
