Marketing 101. If you want to get orders/sales now, announce that price is going up. If he can pull in enough folks on the fence about buying a Tesla he'll be able to tone down the demand doubters. The question is when will the robo business really be available.

It will cost you dearly because Musk will have to maintain a bus load of lawyers on staff to defend the truck load of legal actions that will result against Tesla after it delivers cars with 'autonomous driving ability.'

The Tesla future smells foul.

I expect the initial sales of Autonomous Vehicles will actually be Longer Distance Trucks - because they primarily use the Interstate System.

THen you might see more Taxi company buys as well - before the home market gets them
