Volkswagen To Produce New Smaller Crossover At Mexican Beetle Plant
With the end of Beetle output, Volkswagen Group will begin producing the Tarek small crossover at its plant in the Mexican state of Puebla in 2020 and sales will start by the end of 2021, VW of Mexico CEO Steffen Reiche said on Wednesday.

The vehicle, discussed with U.S. dealers at the NADA convention in January, is expected to be slotted below the Tiguan crossover.

Scott Keogh, CEO of Volkswagen of America, told Automotive News this year that the subcompact crossover would have a different name in the U.S. market.

VW's OWN statements have said "end of 2021".

This will not play well for VW. They are entering the "small C" crossover segment with a vehicle that looks 15 years old.

Actually I think this about the size of the previous Tiguan. Remember the current model is measurably larger in almost every dimension. There are many past owners that would like something that size again.

But if it does not come in well below the Tiguan in price--and that should be $18-20K base--it will be another overpriced VW disaster. Couple that with the model year 2005 styling and this is going to be an unmitigated mess. Neither the Tiguan or the Atlas are challenging their segments for volume leadership. This will be more of the same. SEATs and Skodas are better styled and THEY should be what VWAG sells here as VWs.
