Chevrolet Wears Out Nurburgring Testing Six C-8 Corvettes Prototypes

We’re only a few days away from Chevrolet unveiling the all-new 2020 mid-engine Corvette, an event that you’ll be able to follow online via livestream.

Proceedings will kick off on July 18 at 7:30 pm PDT / 10:30 pm EDT, and you can get in on the action using this link. Until then, the automaker is apparently calling for all hands to be on deck, as no fewer than six Corvette C8 prototypes were spotted recently departing their testing grounds at the Nurburgring.

So far so good. Its encouraging that none of these prototypes have burst into flames yet (as is the case for many early production of new design mid-engined cars).

Still like the stupidest decision ever by GM but I guess we will see.

If they keep the price at the current level, then it might have a shot, but we know that's not in the cards. The styling is putrid. THAT and the ridiculous price increase will make this the DeadVette.

I hope it has a really big frunk. The Corvette has always been a very livable and practical sports car.

Well that goes out the window with mid engine design.

Golf clubs up front? Doubtful.

From the angle of the lead photo it looks like Chevy used the 1979 El Camino for inspiration. If you squint and look at the very angular, squared-off rear haunches, you could imagine a small pickup bed back there. Maybe even Subaru BRAT?

Good thing we are all de-sensitized to painful, drawn out. product launches after Toyota launched their Supra/Bupra a few months ago - this is going to be another turd in the punch bowl.

The design is growing on me somewhat. The side vents still do not fit smoothly into the design. I hope this is some camouflage.

Jalopnik has a good article that says eventually this success of this car will come down to price. If it is priced slightly higher than the current C7, it brings exotic car performance to a broader audience. If it is $100,000 it is just another expensive superville.

I’m actually really excited about this car. The spy shots of the rear lights look horrible though. The Camaro lights don’t work on the Vette. I hope they come up with something better.

I have to disagree with most of the above comments on pricing. Given how expensive cars have become, $100k for a mid-engine V8 sports car is a bargain. And it’s a Corvette! Undoubtedly the most famous and iconic American sports car. Comparing it to any European, they are 2-3 times more expensive. Corvette deserves better!

The Audi R8 is $170,000. The NSX $157,000. Neither is selling. Ferraris and Lambos are exotics and play in a different market. The Corvette made this performance available for many more people at a resonable price. Unless it is priced right it will lose its unique identity.
