Jay Leno Explains WHY He Drives A Tesla - What Is Your Excuse On Why You Don't?
Late-night talk show legend Jay Leno is a car nut. For those unaware, he has a website and TV show entitled Jay Leno's Garage. Leno is a car collector and uses the show to provide insight into his massive collection. He owns some 300 vehicles and more than half of them are cars. The remainder is comprised of motorcycles and motorbikes.

As you probably well know if you follow the segment, Leno is a huge Tesla fan. He currently owns a Model S and has recently test-driven a Model 3 and a Tesla Roadster prototype. Of course, this all makes perfect sense due to his love for fast, sporty, and unique vehicles. However, in a recent interview with CNBC, Leno touched on some of the less obvious — but arguably much more important — reasons he's a fan of Tesla.

I don't drive a Tesla because:

They do not have fast enough recharge to be a replacement to my vehicles.

They cost 2X the price of an equivalent ICE car.

Their styling is dull to ugly.

Their reliability is Alfa-Romeo-like.

Their service is a nightmare.

They engage in unethical business practices.

Who are you trying to convince though?

I would like to agree with Matt, except for I actually like the styling for S, the other cars are basket cases. I would like to add.

Luxury car prices for cars that aren't luxury cars.

Driving 500 miles and not having it take 10 hours.

Goofy egonomics.

I most of all, not being part of the trendy douchebaggery hot thing of the minute club, just to prove that I'm cool because I'm really not.

Given that the S looks like a regurgitated Fusion...

Why all the hate? And "facts" (that aren't)?

I drive a Tesla because:

I can add 150 miles to the 320 mile range I leave the garage with in 15 minutes. I don't want to drive more than 400 miles a day.

Model 3 cat me about 55 out the door equipped better than the 428i or A5 I test drove and priced.

Their styling is very appealing and fresh.

The reliability in 9 months and 8000 miles has been perfect (unlike both of my 3 series which needed lots of warranty work)

Their service is great, fast and they loan you a Model S, fixed a broken window in one day!

They engage in unethical business practices. I dunno. I paid my money and got a car. I like it. Done deal.

Again, please explain to me why there is such desperate hate for an American car that's so innovative and is changing the world? I don't get it. Sure Elon is strange. But so wasn't Henry Ford, look his bio up. And there are endless examples of visionaries who changed the world but were "awkward" in so doing...

Why in the hell would I drive another car when mine drives just fine.

Because they're all luxury cars and we, like nearly everyone, don't have a luxury car budget.
Also there's the charging issue -- too complex to go into given the shitty reporting on the subject.

I drive BETTER cars than those Evs

Mine don't require long times(Hours) to refuel and can be used for long Trips which I intend to take as soon as my company is sold.

ALso important - there is NO PLACE to purchase that brand nearby my home- My Rolls ROYCE dealer happens to be closer.

Lastly - I would NEVER buy a car for which I cannot access the computer myself (Yes I have the scanners needed). Eventually, non warranty repairs will be needed - and If I still can - I do my own. IF I cannot - I have trusted mechanics nearby who I would prefer to use. I do not care to have to return to a dealers service area every time repairs are needed to reset the computers. And of course- there is no such thing nearby as well.

Here's the question though. If you had another wealthy friend that you could do your munchausen syndrome thing on and he had a Tesla and you inherited, would you drive it?

Why surprised and disapponted that Jay drive a D cell powered fake car.
For a guy who insists he loved the sound, vibration and smell of petrol powered vehicle, I find it disheartening to learn he is driving what is nothing more that a giant electric golf cart.

Jay knows cars - and knows what he's talking about.

So many dinosaurs commenting on this site. You guys would be ridiculing the horseless carriage back in the day. Lol.

No mention of the fact that his decision to drive Tesla had anything to do with his place of residence? Being a hardcore petrolhead Residing in one of the most fanatical global warming true believer areas in the Land of Fruits and Nuts must be difficult. While he may appreciate the engineering of a Tesla, being seen driving on saves him the scorn of the enlightened A Listers and wannabes of Malibu.

You post doesn't bode well for the individual integrity that Jay possesses. Your post presupposes that Jay is a gutless 'me too' follower. I hope not.

I don't drive a Tesla because I can't afford one right now. Otherwise, I would be driving one.

Listen to Jay's comments about the "Americaness" of Tesla, something most people on this site overlook.
