600HP+ Taycan Turbo Promises To Not Disappoint The Diehard Purist

The Porsche Taycan is arguably one of the most highly-anticipated electric cars this year, and for good reason. The Taycan is Porsche’s first modern all-electric car, bred with racing DNA and technology honed in the track from hybrids like the 918 Spyder and the 919 Hybrid Evo. It is then incredibly pertinent for Porsche to ensure that the Taycan, particularly its top-tier “Turbo” variant, will not disappoint in any way.

A recent review of a Taycan Turbo pre-production prototype suggests that the top-tier variant of Porsche’s electric car could live up to its name, and then some. During a ride-along, Car Magazine European editor Georg Kacher was able to get up close with the upcoming vehicle as it tore through the streets with Porsche’s chief engineer Stefan Weckbach.

I would think that they wouldn't call the top model a Turbo or Turbo S, but group think is strong in some firms. Also a lack of new ideas can persist. If it is a BEV, there is nothing being turbocharged.

I agree. "Turbo" is 100% inappropriate for an EV.

Clearly it has. By my count, there are 6 paid Tesla trolls here...or perhaps 1 with 6 names.

Turbo or not it's going to be a hit.

Indeed and the crap storm Tesla S will suddenly look ancient and outdated.

Perhaps at first but I doubt Tesla is going to rest on its laurels very long.

Taycan will sell very well, no doubt, but Tesla will still move more cars in a month than Taycan will sell in year.

Even Porsche has said it won't be as fast as the Model S and the competitor to the Model S Performance will have a starting price that is $50k higher. By the time you can get one of these, it will be competing with a better Model S.

What will be interesting to see if Porsche drops the slow selling Panamera when the Taycan comes out. I don't think there is room for both.

Agreed.

Until there is enough infrastructure to support very quick charging of the battery pack - the EV will not replace an ICE car - period. he Panamera - largely a Grand Tourer - is just one of several cars that VW makes on that platform and it is likely to continue for at least a while.

I continue to believe that no one really knows how much demand there will be for EVs - and we don't really know what price range this one will be in a well. But I suspect it will be a LOT more than a Model S. People who buy cars in this category are not generally put off by high prices - and it will be a need for most collectors - so it might sell well - but again the price matters for the general public.

Every car sold will eventually be an EV, that's the demand. No one will pay more for a slower, less convenient, and more expensive to maintain vehicle after EVs are less expensive than ICE cars.
