The Question That Won't Be Asked About The Cadillac XT6 By The Reviewers Being Wined And Dined This Week In DC. WHY Is It $20k More Than A Palisade?
As we speak reporters from all over are in the DC area driving/reviewing the all new Cadillac XT6. I have been watching a lot of the posts on social media. What they're eating and drinking, the places they're stopping at, different photos of the vehicle, etc.
They also posted that if you want a fully loaded unit it would price out at a little over $65k. Yes, you read that right.
So after looking at the posts so far couldn't help but think about a few things...
Seeing it again after photographing it at the auto show debut, my instinct that it had a decent and handsome exterior were reinforced.
The auto show car interior I sat in and photographed was as they say in the UK, RUBBISH. Same old boring GM inside no better than a loaded Traverse.
That the Hyundai Palisade and Kia Telluride were about 100x better products. Not even close.
We don't know if the reviewers will be on that comparison and want to call that out in their reporting but there is ONE question we know that WON'T be asked by them to Cadillac at this event they are attending...
WHY ON EARTH IS THE XT6 TWENTY THOUSAND PLUS DOLLARS MORE THAN A HYUNDAI PALISADE OR KIA TELLURIDE?
What say you Spies?
Here is a nice photo refresher from Detroit of the Cadillac XT6 to help you.

Price it like a Lexus RX and watch magic happen. Price it like an Aviator and watch people stay away.

Ouch! Brutal question but seriously, why?
Honestly, same can be said for a bunch of other higher priced SUVs.

No one is going to bring up the Passport/Pilot side profile huh? Had it been a Kia then that's what would had been said. But because it isnt Korean it can get away with it. Yet the Sonata get accused of copying the Civic's back end allowing the Accord's greenhouse to get away from copying the 2011 Sonata's greenhouse.

Killing the XT5 and installing this at that price point would have made sense.

Not sure the Palluride is the right comparison point. They have certainly blurred the line between premium and non-premium offerings. And they probably made is very, very difficult for Genesis and their first SUV offering.
That being said, $65K for a luxury 3-row SUV doesn't seem unreasonable. BUT, this XT6 doesn't look the part. It looks more Chevy/Buick than it does Cadillac. And in-person feedback doesn't seem to disagree with that sentiment.

blurry lines between upscale, premium, & luxury. also see M-B A-class, B-class vehicles.
think about the XT6 like this....the Lambda SUV's were an unexpected hit. GM did their homework. They are FINALLY going to make a full-size unibody SUV for Cadillac. it'll help the brand more than the Escalade is doing right now - partially b/c it's newer. But it's less of the raw brute ute & far more family-friendly exterior-wise & full of the expected tech. I'd be happy to drive it on the daily - in traffic - out with tha dudes - or on the long highway trips.

The Telluride feels incredibly premium for a mainstream product whereas the XT6 will be incredibly mainstream feeling with a premium price point.

What was GM thinking...a rehashed equinox is not going to cut it. The interior, and the unrefined 3.6L V6 mounted in a Transverse/FWD platform is completely outclassed in this segment. This will need a lot of cash or subsidized leases to move. The only thing I can think of is that if they developed a compelling, refined crossover with the 3.0L Turbo/Blackwing V8 options it could cannibalize Escalade sales ....GM probably wants to avoid that because the Escalade is cheap to build and has fat profit margins.

XT6 profile looks just like Hyundai/Kia..
NOT premium!
The Lincoln Aviator is so much more a premium big class act... Puts Caddy to shame!!!

Seriously?! Comparing a Caddy to a Heyundai?? One is a premium brand and one isn’t. Shall we compare a Rolex to a Casio?

You do realize that the XT6 is a Casio with a Rolex decal on it, right?

It is a fair comparison. What does the XT6 provide that the Kia Telluride does not? How does it justify the added expense?

Think of it as helping them with their insecurities. You like to help people AND they pay you for it.

I'm loving the fuktards that are telling me I'm not selling Corvettes. Stupid is widespread. They are the same people that would not bat an eye at a $50K "market value adjustment" on a C8. Too bad I can't sell them one and do that to them.
