CONFIRMED: A Manual C8 Corvette Is Officially DEAD
If you were left hoping that the all-new, C8 Chevrolet Corvette would come with a manual gearbox, we've got bad news. That's because it's not happening.

Not today, not tomorrow. Never.

While we were hoping that General Motors would surprise us down the road, it's certainly dead according to the latest reports. That's because the Corvette's lead engineer, Tadge Juechter, has officially weighed in.

He noted that the current take rate for a do-it-yourself gearbox is about 15 percent and, simply put, that's not enough to justify creating a manual transmission. So, it's not happening.

...When I asked Corvette lead engineer Tadge Juechter at the reveal of the 2020 Corvette on Thursday if there is any chance the manual will come back, he replied simply: “No.”

Juechter said a manual-equipped Corvette wouldn't sell well enough to make it worth a supplier’s effort to develop.

“We couldn’t find anybody honestly who’d be willing to do it. Because just like the automatic, the DCT, it would have to be a bespoke manual,” Juechter said. “It’s low volume, very expensive. The reason is it’s a low-volume industry. That industry is dying—building manual transmissions..."

Chevy will reverse this decision within 24 months or loose a substantial following. Chevy cannot afford to narrow its customer base.

You do know that the number of manual Corvettes is minuscule, right? The Corvette has been an automatic sports car for decades. These days, the automatic is the better choice with more ratios and faster shifting than is possible with a manual.

The average age of a Corvette buyer is 61. Give that some thought. The Corvette will get a seat with massage features before a manual transmission comes back.

I know guys who still ski and ride 8hr and 24hr mtb races at that age. In fact I have a guy on my team who will be 62 this fall. You decide your level of fitness, not the age on the calendar.

Are those 61 year old guys going to be able to climb in and out of this thing?

Charge a premium and make it a zero sum gain. I will buy a manual Genesis G70 over a BMW 340 because of the manual. I own a Porsche and a BMW with a manual. I drive RWD in a snow belt because they are manuals. I'll take public transit when I'm snowed in or walk.

The manual is a mandatory option for me and I'll drive a Hyundai before I give that feature up. Charge me $1-5k for that privilege. The manual isn't about saving money for this car enthusiast and car buyer.

Everything for the C8 was built around the DCT. It would be very expensive and not worth the financial return to develop one as the take rate is very low and continuing to drop.

not to mention that for performance, the DCT would kill a manual

Chevy has determined that most buyers either do not know how to drive a manual or they just want the ez efficiency and speed of the automatic.

Or they want the faster solution.

The DCT is simply far superior. I love manuals, but their days are over.

I also think the Corvette will be as two hands on the wheel kind of car. I'm not saying it will handle poorly, just the opposite. If they have made a leap in handling and power, having one hand on the stick will not be advantageous.
