Over 6000 C7 Corvettes Remain On Dealer Lots - Time To Get A Great Deal Or Wait For The New C8?

The 2020 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray may be the talk of the town right now but those wanting to purchase a new ‘Vette before the C8 arrives in dealers next year have thousands of C7 models to choose from.

According to Corvette Blogger, figures from einventoryNow reveal that there are approximately 6025 new C7 Corvettes sitting in dealerships across the United States just waiting to be purchased. This represents an 84-day supply of the front-engined, V8-powered sports car.

Perspective is everything. 6K units is about 3.5 months worth of stock and the C8 is about 7 months off. Best estimates are February 2020 for actually going on sale. Moreover with some dealers likely to price gouge, the C7 will easily sell out in 7 months.

@MD- Thanks for the reality check on what these numbers really mean out in the field. Looks like there will be a gap of a few months were new C7's are gone and new C8's are yet to be delivered.

@Agent009- Thanks for the shout out! Finding stories for the site is fun!

Quit posting these articles as though demand has dried up for the Corvette. They are well into retooling the plant for C8 production. They had to build enough inventory to carry them through the downtown. Common practice.

They’ll have to discount them big time to move them. This is not a normal car in the sense that no one needs a corvette to commute to work or take the kids to school. This is an extra vehicle for the vast majority of buyers, and many will wait for C8 as it is a huge leap and the price hasn’t gone up much.

That's not a true statement. Our inquiries have gone up because people want the last "true" Corvette.

Good luck with that.

I know you're deeply concerned that I always should come out on top in business, but rest assured. The C7 continues to sell very predictably.

True Corvette fans want the engine up front.

The people lauding the C8 will never even remotely consider a Corvette much less buy one.

@MD- The dealer in the photo seems to be discounting to the tune of 10-15%. Less on the Z06. Moreso on the Stingray. Understandable to an extent if you have that many cars to move.

Depends on the market. You can't give an F150 away in San Francisco.

The article is also poorly written.

For example it says: "At the start of the year, there were more than 9000 examples on dealership lots and by June, that had fallen to 7045 units."

The way it's written is that in 6 months only 2000 Corvettes were sold.

In reality roughly 9800 Corvettes were sold--and--sales actually went UP during that interval from where they were in January.

What the numbers also show is that the Corvette C7 is selling predictably and that GM is obviously being successful in reducing the relative overall inventory (9000-->7000).

The "on dealers lots" is also VERY misleading. Allocated units and "on the lots" are two wildly different things.

We are likely to have a couple of months with virtually no Corvettes available.

Autospies - please stop with the C7 "leftover inventory" articles already.

I think you have milked the Corvette C7/C8 transition for all its worth by now.

Indeed. Corvette production is at a trickle as they fill orders in hand and then it will stop for retooling. Sales are doing fine. There will not be a glut of C7s.
