New York Claims It Wants To Go Green But Denies Incentives For Tesla Charging Stations

Last July 11, New York regulators denied a request from Tesla for incentives in installing new charging spots in the city. And the whole issue with Tesla’s charging stations seems to be the lack of “standardized plugs.”

The request came after the New York State Public Service Commission (PSC) approved the expansion of its “direct current fast-charging infrastructure program”. In February, it approved an initiative to have 1,075 new and publicly accessible fast-charging plugs.

NY politics is corrupt with an insatiable appetite for revenue, squeezing its diminishing populace with increasingly higher taxes and surcharges. Cuomo is sucking up to the far left on a number of progressive issues while strangling the state's economic future and that of its citizens. NY State and NYC are a piggy bank to fund liberal insanity. Think about it...Cuomo, de Blasio and AOC. Mo, Larry and Curly made us laugh. These three make you cringe and cry.

Tesla is arguably 60% to 70% of the market. NY is telling 70% of the market it isn't interested in serving them.

Giving money incentives for charging stations is the equivalent of giving money to develop new Gas Stations - and the oil lobby would ask for it. THe legal situation in NYC is such that even if they tried to give Incentives - it would be tied up in the courts by the Oil Lobby (Rockefeller was from NY remember) for years. Of course - the problem is - with the parking as it is - sales of EVs in NY state are not all that high - and are likely to be from a higher income group - which would show up as subsidizing the rich - not a good thing for any politician.

THere are enough Malls/Centers in the NYC area with diminishing patronage that they should have no problem finding a place to put such chargers - many of them lease parking to the Government and put a Bus Station on their property.

NY got burned by Tesla already and is not going to repeat the same mistake.

"The plant at Riverbend in Buffalo was built and equipped with $750 million in taxpayer funds – the centerpiece of Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s Buffalo Billion initiative. As part of the deal, Tesla must employ 1,460 workers at the facility by April 2020 or face $41.2 million in state penalties."

But instead Tesla has 50-60 workers for each of the 4 shifts. Oops.

In a mall near me, in the rear parking lot is a Tesla Charging Stations with about 12 charging stations. I have yet to see any Tesla owners actually recharge their vehicles at this large station.
