How Long Until GM Executives Buckle To The Headwinds And Create A Corvette SUV?
Rumors General Motors wants to take the Corvette nameplate and turn it into a full-fledged brand aren't new. It seems to pop up when Chevy is about to make a drastic change to the car, such as launching a new model, and the launch of the C8 Corvette was no different. One day after Chevy unveiled the vehicle, a new report hit the internet citing anonymous GM insiders that the company is considering turning the Corvette into a brand that could grow to include a sedan, a Corvette-based Cadillac offering, and an SUV or crossover.

If they are going to do it they need to wait until they can develop a proper platform for such a vehicle...a dolled up equinox will be a travesty,

In the past - GM certainly made an initial splash with the Hummer - even though it was built on the Suburban Chassis. THey could do similar today and have a distinct difference in the product BUT Corvette is NOT a brand- it not planned to be a Brand - and they have no facility for producing a Fiberglass performance Suv. They really do not need more such vehicles at Chevy - they just need better ones.

GM is developing a CUV that is based on either the Omega(CT6) platform or one of the VSS platforms (It is said to be rear wheel drive) - As the Top Cadillac "Crossover" while leaving the Escalade by itself. Now if this product came with a Blackwing Engine - it might be just the thing to add performance to their Crossovers.

It needs to be a significant priority and today! An American Porsche if done well WILL be huge

A proper Corvette SUV would have to reflect the brand's core values...extreme performance at a reasonable (lower) price. My main concern is that GM will cut corners and bastardize the brand with a made over Tahoe. I'm also not sure the SUV market can support and sustain a low volume lower priced entrant.

It better not be based on the Tahoe...it has to be a vehicle with good dynamics and speed. Slapping a big engine into a pickup truck based SUV will just go to reinforce the stereotype that Corvettes are sloppy handling and go fast in a straight line. Obviously GM is trying to move away from that with the mid engine C8, so why take a step back with a pickup based SUV.

But just like you want to see another Typhoon, a Corvette SUV would more than fit into that sport SUV slot. But would have to be more than a swapping a front fascia with some other existing SUV. The effort would need to do a ground-up design for a street-oriented CUV having all the performance options for available suspension & engine upgrades.

They don't have a platform.

They need an RWD/AWD premium scalable platform for Corvette (performance) and Cadillac (luxury)

Corvette Mako / 110 wb / TTV6 / $45K base / aimed at Macan

Cadillac Eloro / 112 wb / 2.0T / $40K base / replaces XT5

Corvette Piranha 115 wb / V8 / $60K base / aimed at Cayenne

Cadillac Eldorado / 118 wb / V6 / $55K base / replaces XT6

Cadillac "el" names are easy to come up with. Eloro would be a obvious mini Eldorado allusion

Making Corvette a brand and selling next to Cadillac in stand-alone dealers would be the trick, but the bullshit of CT/XT has to go away at Cadillac.

One would think the omega platform underpinning the CT6 was developed with an SUV in mind...if not another example of poor management at GM.

I agree, BUT if that were the case then we'd NOT be seeing a Cadillac Travequinox.

The marketing of the CT6 was epic stupid. Given how captivating people found the Elmiraj, it should have worn that name.

But the CT5 shows that things are really off at Cadillac. They created an ugly hatchback looking thing to replace the CTS. It's too bad they did do to the CTS what they did to the ATS which was turned into the very attractive CT4.

A brilliant move would have been to have created an LWB Corvette C7, call it the Cadillac Elcielo and market it for $60K against the astoundingly terrible BMW Z4.

The CT6 is an excellent car that got lost with a meaningless alphanumeric name that ignored all the equity in Cadillac naming heritage.
Then they focused on the 4 cyl at launch!?!
Now they are finally getting the car right with the Blackwing, but have probably waited too long. GM does this over and over.

Anyone listening at Cadillac ??? Bring back the legacy names >> Eldorado, Coupe De Ville, Sedan De Ville, Talisman, Seville and give them styling that you do not have to apologize for. That would be in your face styling that is unmistakingly Cadillac

Imagine the CT5 getting a new roofline that evokes the 76 Seville but with rear fenders that don't droop. Call it "Seville" watch sales happen. I honestly think that if someone did a styled-by-axe design that--because it would stand out--that it would sell well.

Imagine Audis with the simple perfection of the first 80/Fox for example.

Even now, the traditional Corvette buyers are hating the new C8, so maybe in two years, a new Corvette crossover will be release to compete with the Cayenne and X5!

Yes. It will be based on the Traverse with a 2.0T with lots of plastic body parts.

I would think any CUV or SUV or Sedan would ape/echo Corvette styling in some manner. As well the larger vehicles would have the same engines the Corvette gets. Smaller ones can have a TT V6. Again this is all conjecture as we have to assume someone at GM is smart enough to see the direction all performance brands seem to be headed in. They have had more than 10 years to clue in. Let's hope the penny has finally dropped...

Mary Barra is incompetent. Cadillac is adrift. Buick is imploding. Corvette just got nuked.

And like the title of this thread it will be a mixed metaphor. Buck headwinds or buckle to pressure, GM will needs a better premium product plan than they have now. But I don't think GM is capable of greatness because of poor management.
