YOU SNOOZE, YOU LOSE: Barely 2 Weeks After Debut 2020 Corvette Is Almost SOLD OUT!
In what will likely be music to the ears of management parked high up in the GM Renaissance Center in Detroit, Michigan, the 2020 Chevy Corvette appears to already be a smashing success. Switching from a front- to a mid-engine setup was a bold but necessary decision, but there could have been some serious backlash from the Corvette’s most loyal fans. Turns out that’s not the case. Speaking with Michael Simcoe, GM design chief, at the Concours d’Elegance of America, Autoblog has learned the 2020 Corvette is nearly sold out.

This seems is could be dealer orders as prices have not been released yet.
MD likely has the answer.

Lol the Corvette is the hottest thing to come out of America in a while, I’m pretty sure there will be a great deal of customers attached to these orders, not to mention dissatisfied Supra fans

C4L1 Go to your Chevy dealer and tell them you want to order a C8. They will maybe take a deposit, but they won't order you a car.

Chevy is creating a buzz by allocating 100% of the intended production of the C8 to dealers and calling them sales.

This report of "sold out" is not people stampeding to dealers to put money down. The is Chevrolet allocating productions to dealers. Allocations are reported as sales by manufacturers whether or not the cars are sold.

Recall the Chrysler 200 that had an astonishing number of orders only to be DOA on the lot.

Always good to be reminded of how things really work in the auto business and seeing fact separated from fiction. Thanks @MD.

While manufactures technically sell their vehicles to the dealers the actual sales that get reported monthly are to retail customers(Including fleet i.e internal company cars/rentals).

They may be "SOLD OUT" in terms of initial production allocation but thats about it.

Umm NO. FCA is notorious for claiming as sales that which they have allocated to dealers and not actual sales to customers. Audi cooked the books for a LONG time reporting 1000% sales increases every month year after year just by playing numbers.

No matter how the sales are booked by GM, no dealer wants to be in a position of not having C8's on their floor or available for sale.

You clearly demonstrate your lack of knowledge. Chevrolet has determined which dealers get Corvettes--some do not--and they have determined the allocation. We can attempt to increase our allocation or in some cases reduce it, but allocation is not based in waiting for dealers to place orders and then building accordingly.

@ MD And once again you jump to conclusions of what others know and don't know. Always so quick to find fault with others. Let me say it again in terms you might understand... "No dealer will turn down their allocation to be in a position of not having C8's on their floor or available for sale." Same as what I said but said differently.

@pugproud You were incorrect in your statement. I corrected you. Now you're trying to save face by pretending my correction was what you had said all along. You would have to matter to me for your opinion of me to be of my concern. #dismissed

If you are a dealer with C8 allocation you would NOT immediately place an order for every unit of your allocation. That would be suicidal.

@ MD And you would not reduce your allotment either. So what's your point.

And once again, you're WRONG. If that vehicle is not a big seller for you, but another one is, you would obviously want to shift the mix. DEALERS DO IT ALL THE TIME. There are markets where the Corvette is an anathema.

Some dealers here in Houston already have down payments for all their 2020 allocations - putting people on 2021 waiting lists

To be clear, I was not being critical of the fact they are sold out, just mindful that consumers scooped them up already without any published pricing.
I think it is a fantastic car and think it will be a success. If I ran Chevy I would say the same thing. Get some free positive press and build some buzz.

Not interested in purchasing a first year brand new generation vehicle. Second year version always will have many needed improvements and corrections. Patience.

If this new Corvette is a huge success, does Mary Barra get any credit for it?

Moot point.

GM is losing where it matters most.
