Running Scared? Ferrari Chatrooms Light Up Over 2020 Corvette

After years of speculation, Chevy has finally revealed the first mid-engine Corvette. With almost 500 horsepower and a price starting under $60,000, the new C8 is clearly targeting the titans of the supercar world. Naturally, Ferrari owners have a lot to say.

We’ve collected all the best reactions from users of our sister site, FerrariChat, which is the largest forum of Ferrari enthusiasts in the world. So how does this red, mid-engine supercar with a bowtie measure up to the red, mid-engine supercars from Maranello?

Ferrari owners are too arrogant to even acknowledge the Corvette. #NonIssue

Can't wait to see the TG performance comparos & runway races. It'll be interesting how the rear engine Corvette does.

Price. Performance. Reputation.

That is the new rear-engine 2020 Corvette.

Exactly although I do feel the Corvette offers tremendous value and will help keep other performance vehicle pricing in check, Chevy may do with the Corvette what Nissan did with the GTR, embarrassing supercars that cost 2-3 x more

Absolutely but I also know a Ferrari owner will be forced to add a vette to his fleet after his buddy in the Vette embarrasses him in front of their friends at a light

You can do that with a Hellcat.

Depends on conditions and driver in a hellcat, power delivery/grip a little more tricky, I have a feeeling the Vette will Consistently and effortlessly run to 60 in under 3 seconds.

Plus I can’t stomach the hellcats interior, I feel like it has more cheap plastics than the container store

The interiors of Dodges are pretty hellish. The Hellcat (Challenger or Charger) is a handful to drag race, but I can handle an LS7 Sagaris...now that is unruly. LOL

Other marques should be worried as for less than the cost of 2 Mclaren exhaust systems you can park a C8 in the garage and have superb reliability as far as super cars are concerned. Best bang for the buck for this particular market niche

Don't really think this will get many Ferrari sales. Those are mainly bought for exclusivity. The C8 fits better against, Camaro ZL1, GT500, Hellcat.

Lol, I have a friend who is a Ferrari owner (actually many Ferraris). He wouldn't ever consider owning a Corvette.

For sure any buyers of sports cars in the $100k to maybe $125k range will consider the Vette.

It could affect the resale value of used Ferraris....the ones bought by enthusiasts who enjoy driving (unlike the new ones which are largely a rich man's toy). The C8 with the Blackwing engine will probably come somewhere in-between the price of a used f430 and f458, and the stingray will be significantly cheaper with better performance. The C8 will take new car sales from Porsches, higher end mustangs, some M cars and the Toyota Supra.

if anything its the other variations due to come that will probably give super cars a run for their money.

I think a lot of people miss the point. rich guys who can afford exotic supercars typically like to add one or two of the other serious players to their fleet. it doesn't mean it'll replace their ferrari, maclaren, etc but trying them out for a year or 2 just to play around with it is what usually happens here. it's not an either/or decision. The new vette is attracting a certain degree of respect here and the comments in the article bear this out.

Rich guys who can afford supercars buy new Ferraris...C8 will not change this. The people on the Ferrari forums are trash talking because the values of their older (F430/F458s) will tank because of this C8.

The people buying a $200,000 Ferrari won't be scared over a $70,000 Corvette. If the Ferrari buyer's goal was to maximize speed for the lowest price, they wouldn't buy the Ferrari in the first place. A large reason why many people buy a Ferrari is for the ownership experience, exclusivity and brand history that will allow them to be connected to one of the automotive world's most storied sports car manufacturers.

The sales and value of used Ferraris will likely be impacted though as a used Ferrari is a lot closer in price to the Corvette than a new one.

Ferrari owners will buy a Corvette for the same reason they’ve always bought Corvettes, a cheap throwaway track car. A lot of bang for the buck, if it gets damaged so what it’s just a corvette.

I think a lot of Ferrari's are bought because they are Ferrari's. I doubt they are going to lose many sales.

You are quite right and many of Tesla's sales were because they were niche shiny new object sales that will be lost to other brands as they roll out more compelling EV offerings with "real dealer support and service", instant repairability, gooder build quality, newer platforms, real interiors and less toxic dickhead CEO's.

Now may be a good time to start working on your resume...

Corvettes will be what Ferrari owners buy their sons and daughters as their starter cars. Private school parking lots will be littered with Corvettes.

Ferrari's are fast jewelry, the Corvette will be (and is) fast fun.
