Porsche Expects New Taycan EV To Outsell The Iconic 911

In just six weeks’ time at the Frankfurt Auto Show, the Porsche Taycan will finally be unveiled to the world and is shaping up to quickly outsell the iconic 911.

The all-electric Taycan has been a long time coming and over the past couple of years, Porsche has managed to drum up a lot of interest in the car. According to Auto News, the company has already amassed almost 30,000 deposits for the Taycan and will look to quickly boost annual production up to about 40,000 units, Evercore ISI analyst Arndt Ellinghorst says.

Money in the bank for Porsche and a real ex-lax moment for Tesla once these hit the streets

With massively declining sedan sales in the US, Porsche should really have made an electric SUV instead.

The Taycan (Tin-Can?) Porsche should do well as these figures show. The Panamera and its variants should be cancelled. I suspect Tesla will wait until this model is launched and then offer an OTA update to get more power from P100D models to be a bit quicker than this new Porsche. I don't think they will let anyone outdo them in the launch department.

The problem is that the Model S was engineered by Tesla when they knew a lot less about engineering cars than the next to nothing that they know now.

@MD- Very true in terms of years, but not really so when it comes to crash tests. Top ratings elude a lot of MFG's. You don't get that with being bad at engineering. Poor panel gaps etc shows their inexperience as a car mfg. What will be key is how many who would have chosen a Model S go for the Taycan. Are these sales Tesla would have gotten or Porsche guys who would not look at them?

Just pointing out the obvious. I can always hope you stick to cars instead of choosing to insult. So I ask again, who are Taycan buyers? They sell so little Panameras that they can't account for 30,000 units of Taycan. Are they all Model S owners? S-Class? 7 Series? A8? 911? Flying Spur? It is a good number of high end cars to pull out of the market.

Don't play the innocent or the injured party: "I can always hope you stick to cars instead of choosing to insult." because you dish plenty out.

@sanjose

You're arguing with the guy who said the C8 is going to kill the Corvette. Stop wasting your time. Clearly a know nothing.

I don't think the Taycan will match the Model S in 0-60 acceleration, Porsche admitted as much already. What it will do it up the bar on handling and sustained high-performance. I think the Model S will combat that with a 3-motor setup and new batteries, but now that seems like it won't come until Feb or March 2020 at best.

Yes, the Taycan will outsell the 911. And the SUV version is right around the corner.

Porsche's SUV's are already long out selling the 911 sports car.

I hope it does, that will help Porsche electrify the whole lineup. An all-electric Boxter and 911 would be amazing.
