Nissan To Axe 10% Of Product Line Due To Horrific Earnings Plunge

Nissan has had a rough go at the whole making and selling cars thing this year, as evidenced by the company’s June financial statement released Tuesday afternoon and covered by Automotive News.

The report indicates that Nissan’s global production shrank by 10.9 percent in the first half of calendar year 2019, as compared to the same period in the prior year. Similarly, global vehicle sales are down 7.9 percent, and total exports from Japan are down 17.8 percent. None of this looks real good for Nissan.

Kill off the obsolete over priced Z car and replace it later with an up to date competitive sports car.

Yes. That will save Nissan.

Drop Infiniti. The sales do not justify a stand alone brand. The best seller, this year called the Q50 lines up in price and demographic to the Maxima.
What is the brand identity? Nissans used to be sporty and attractive.

The end began when someone in management OK'd names like Juke, and Kick.

Nissan needs to get away from the idiots in France. Nissan is in the sorry state that it is in because of long-term mismanagement by Renault. The French have no history of intelligent innovation, but they do have a reputation for poor quality, horrid cars.

The success of Kia/Hyundai/Genesis had to come at someone's expense. It appears to be Nissan/Infiniti. They have lost their way on styling, quality, technology.
i.e. - they ran a commercial touting their vehicle had the first ever variable compression ratio, without mentioning what the benefits are. How many consumers understand this technology? Why run this commercial?

Used 370z one of the best performance car values out there.

If you're willing to deal with the fragile transmission and are OK with expensive brake system repairs.

The Mustang GT will eat it alive at the track. The 370Z's supposed prowess is largely bullshit. It's a twitchy, unforgiving car at the limit.

Nissan needs an small and midsize electric truck to get their mojo back. An electric GTR/370Z halo car. They already have the Leaf. Just add an electric crossover and SUV and they're relevant again.

A halo car is exactly what they DON'T need. They need mainstream products, that are stylish, have impeccable quality, represent a compelling value, and lead their segments.

The Altima is vastly inferior to the CamCord. Ditto the Sentra to the CivRolla. Ditto the Rogue to the RavRV. Ditto the Pathfinder to the PiLander.

They have to stop relying on French merde for their engineering. Europe--the culture of low automotive expectations vis a vis quality--may be fine with the French trash, but that's not how the Japanese do it.

Nissan could be wound down and nobody would really miss them. Same goes for Infiniti. I supposed someone buy the tooling for the GTR. In addition Mazda could be wound down too. Tooling for the Miata sold to someone as well. Beyond those two cars there is nothing special here worth saving.
