I saw a video on Youtube were a guy went to the wrecker and put a salvage batter pack in a 2005 Prius. Runs like a charm. If you live in a state where rust is not an issue, replacing your battery pack is worth looking into.

Spending 8500 to repair what will probably be a 10 year old car is a tough sell. A smart move for Nissan would be to raise the price a little (maybe to 10K), and offer attractive financing and a 3 year warranty on the rest of the car with battery replacement...this would put peoples' minds at ease about dropping the money in a 10 year old car. There should be a healthy profit margin in that...possibly more than even selling new cars.
