Next Gen BMW M3 Will Use X3 M Underpinnings
We’ve known a bigger and badder 2020 BMW M3 is on the horizon for some time now, and we’ve suspected that it will make use of the M division’s new S58 engine, a punchy 3.0-liter twin-turbo inline six which first bowed in the X3 M and X4 M. We also surmised that the new M3 might at least offer AWD as an option. In a conversation with the head of BMW’s M division, Markus Flasch, CAR Magazine has confirmed our suspicions. Which is great.

So it will actually be an M3SUV model.
Glad that the C8 Vette is not sitting on a Chevy station wagon 'underpinnings.'

The next M3 will use the same engine as the X3/X4 M SUV's. The M3 will use the M5's AWD system.

From what the M division head mentioned, seemed like all the standard & optional goodness as expected.

Now exterior design/styling is a totally different topic....

Wow bimmer lets get it together, the SUV Nurburgring record holding GLC 63 was based on its sedan counterpart for a reason.

This is also why I can’t get with high end bmws which are based on the low end’s interior/exterior design, and their solution to that was placing a massive grille on 7 series replacing the iconic kidney grill with a water buffalo snout

Such backwards thinking

Great article, unfortunately it’s worst than I thought, power wise it will only be on par with the current C 63 which will be up for replacement too, seems like the last few generations have been M playing catch up with AMG

I’m good the C 63 wins the deposit and sound check out the gate
