Jay Leno Claims There’s Almost No Reason To Have A Gas Car With Tesla Around

Jay Leno, arguably one of the most famous gearheads in the world, praised Tesla’s reliability and said that he now sees electric cars as ‘the future’.

After leaving the Tonight Show, Leno focused on his love of cars and made a show, Leno’s Garage, out of his impressive garage in Los Angeles, where he keeps his car collection and work on and restore older cars.

True, when you can afford anything and never drive more than 10 miles.

As any intelligent person could tell the only fake news network is Fox. Tucker Carlson was on recently saying that White Supremacists and the threat they pose is all just a hoax. Likely the same line of belief that lead perfect strangers to call the parents of kids would were killed at Sandy Hook Elementary that they are liars and their kids are fine. #getagrip

There is obviously a reason and it is why Leno has hundreds of cars--collector's items. I mean, people still own horses today but not for everyday transportation.

What he is saying specifically: given the near future cost, maintenance, and performance of an EV, there will be no reason to buy an ICE. He also said finding an ICE in the future will be like finding a car with a manual transmission today.

Jay Leno is right. In 10 years, we will surpass a 50/50 ratio of fully electric to ICE cars. Tesla will be poised to pounce on these shifting market dynamics with increased manufacturing efficiencies. ICE aficionados will be left quaking in their proverbial boots as gas stations and oil changes become a thing of the past, much like leaded gasoline and hand-cranked engines. By the way, that is a beautiful Model S!

Most estimates say that in 10 years, ICE vehicles will still be the majority by far.

If they would even approach 25% - and they won't in ten years - we would already be having applications for permits to build the Electric Plants - and rebuild the GRID - to support them. IT is not happening.

The average age of a car in the US is almost 12 years now - unless somehow poor people come into large amounts of money that they don't have now - most of the cars in 10 year are ALREADY on the road today - and they are not EVs.

AND - add in the HIGH COST of replacing Battery packs in EVS - and these cars will still be something the average person cannot afford as well.

Having an EV as a 2nd or 3rd vehicle would be the most beneficial.

And if you're travelling & don't have the time to fully "pre-plan" all your stops/charging locations, gas is the most versatile when there are major re-fueling/re-charging unknowns. Not every destination will have (readily) available outlets for charging.

Love Jay but why is that after people get their fill of something they tell you how to live your life contrary to their own, whether they be politicians, celebrities or plutocrats?

All the money Jay made on NBC ($25 million a year) he banked living off his stand up acts in Vegas and elsewhere.

Actually - there is are very basic reasons why the EV is not the Vehicle of choice

1 - THe average Vehicle price - although high - is still around $35,000. And that is with options. Until recently - that company did not offer a car that was sold in that price range - and admitted they could not make money on the car at that price.

2 - On an Average day - 170,000+ cars enter manhattan - which has about 1300 public charging stations - most are Level 2 but there are still several level 1 charging stations that are useless for most drivers. A level 2 charging station adds about 24 miles per hour of charging to the batteries ( level one is 4 miles per hour) and many of these are regulated to limit charge time.

THe overwhelming majority of NYC commuters to manhattan would run out of battery power because of lack of Infrastructure.

1.) It is falling every year.
2.) Thankfully not every car has to charge at the same time, new stations are inexpensive and easy to set up, faster level 3 charging stations are rolling out over the next few years, and every normal outlet is a level 1 charger as well.
