A Nod To The Past? Chevrolet Almost Gave The C8 Corvette A Split Rear Window

In an interview with Muscle Cars and Trucks, Chevrolet Performance exterior design director Tom Peters stated that the design team tried but couldn’t make such a split rear window suit the mid-engined Corvette.

That would have been silly. Surely someone would have put a stop to it even if they mocked it up one day. Leave it as an original and not to be replicated ever again.

Sounds like locker room talk nonsense.

Would have been cool, they should have done it...

In early development - I am sure that this is just one of MANY possible configurations that were floated in the room. I do not see why it matters

It would be a nod to a historic moment, when a significant new model appeared. That said this vehicle generated plenty of hype but it would have been cool.

Currently - the retro styling craze has started to Fizzle - primarily because they are cars -and cars are not selling. The current Camaro was a MISS from the start. However - the Vette placement of the engine makes for a narrow rear window already - and putting a crossmember down the middle of it would have only made rear vision worse. I happen to think that the new Vette is actually quite well styled -- certainly nothing like a Fiero at all -

The “splitter” need not be fiberglass there’s enough technology out there they probably could have come up with something the gave exterior visuals but might even have been transparent?

The Fiero V2.0 would have been even uglier with the wannabe split window.

Since there is no Fiero 2.0 currently planned, that's good!
