RECALL ALERT: Nearly 14,000 2020 Ford Explorers And Lincoln Aviators Already RECALLED

Ford Motor Co. issued a safety alert for the 2020 Explorer and Lincoln Aviator SUVs on Wednesday, noting that the vehicles may be missing a part that keeps the car from moving while parked, "increasing the risk of crash."

The company, which has touted its two new sport utility vehicles built only in Chicago, as long-awaited flagship products, said in a news release that the vehicles may be missing the manual park release cover, which is not a minor issue.

"Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards require the manual park release cover be in place and only removable with a tool. If the cover is not installed, the manual park release lever may be inadvertently activated, which could result in unintended vehicle movement if the electronic park brake is not applied," Ford said in its release...

Despite the "Chicken Little" nature of the report, this will be a simple fix. It's a dumb stumble, sure, but they caught the defect and will have an easy time of remedying it.

Not a surprise - Ford one of the higher recalled brands and consistently below average reliability (JD Power).

I do not consider JD POWER to be a reliable unbiased source for information about the Auto Industry - Auto Manufacturers PAY JD POWER to use the name in their ads - one must wonder why those that pay the most money get the most recommendations.

I have always recommended people NOT buy the first year - especially the first few months of a new product like these. THERE are always so many things that never show up until real people actually drive the vehicles instead of test drivers. However - THAT is the purpose of a warranty - to have the manufacturer pay for problems like that. ANd as Matt did point out - this is likely to be a very small problem.

Today - there is really very little separating some of the worst manufacturers from the best. In all cases - most warranty claims tend to be Electrical/Computer in nature rather than mechanical. Cars are much more reliable than they were just 20 years ago. IF you look around and see Muffler and Transmission shops disappearing - it is because need for those repair are off by over 70% from just 30 years ago. If you properly maintain your car -todays cars are also lasting far longer as well. Yes - the more complex a car - the more problems you might have which is why expensive cars generally rank low-= and why cheap Japanese cars that have few of the options last long times.

Why are people complaining, unlike Hyundai/Kia at least Ford is correct whatever the problem is immediately instead of like Hyundai wait until threats of being sued or investigated in order to recall faulty products. That's smart on Ford anyway. The later one waits the more expensive it gets.
