SPIED! BMW's Upcoming Tesla Model 3 Competitor, The i4, Is Seen Undressing...Slowly...
BMW certainly has its work cut out for itself as it develops the all-new i4. That's because it's going up against the Tesla Model 3, which is selling quite well against all odds.

Elon Musk is selling ketchup popsicles to people wearing white gloves and they're eating it up and asking for seconds. It's amazing, really.

That said, BMW has been tinkering away. The i4 will be the brand's first proper response and entry into the normal buyer's electric vehicle game. We're hoping for 300+ miles on a charge and some impressive performance specs. If it doesn't have both, this car's toast.

Seen in the latest spy shots, the i4's shape appears to take creative license from the current-gen 4-Series Gran Coupe. That's not exactly high praises, folks. Even more concerning, it doesn't seem to look like a revolutionary product. Say what you will about the i3 and i8, they at least looked the part.

Hopefully there's still a lot more hiding underneath the i4's camouflage.

That said, what say you, Spies? Are you digging the i4 in these latest shots or are you already underwhelmed?

As in previous prototype shots, a clear visual link between the i4 and the latest 3 Series can be seen. The i4 will share much of its design with the upcoming second-generation 4 Series.

However, a side-on view reveals that the new car appears higher off the ground (both in terms of roof height and ground clearance) than today's 4 Series, suggesting a raised floor to accommodate a sizeable long-range battery. Other tell-tale signs that this is the i4 include a blanked-off front grille, fake 'exhausts' in the disguise and legally mandated 'electric test vehicle' stickers...

So the 3GT is now the i4?

I have no idea but they completely missed the marked. Did Bimmer not get the memo
That the SUV/crossover market is the one to attack now, I thought they surely did with their sagging sedan sales.

Like the EQC is literally sold until 2021...but u thought you’d try your luck with the one vehicle type that hasn’t worked for you i.e 3/5 GT...

Make it make sense

I think how it's adorable that you can't stop thinking about Tesla.

It certainly looks that way.

We agree on virtually NOTHING, but I think we agree that this is a lame effort. The BMW EV should be "different" from their current products--not necessarily freak-show--but different in some way.

They should definitely have a much more futuristic BMW styling language. One that looks posh and iconic so as to entice buyers.

This feels like a rigged 3GT.

I dig it, but my bar seems to be rather low, just make EVs already! :)
It looks sporty, it looks practical, it looks normal (so far). Not too keen on the 1970's doorhandles, what was wrong with the normal pull-bars they've been using for multiple generations now?

Politically I believe we are way closer than you seem to think, but I don't need to pound my chest to make sure everyone knows my views, and I am more tolerant of opposing views than you seem to be. On the other hand, I can't always tell when you are being serious, or just goofing around on the internet, so I may be misinterpreting some of your posts.

As for BMW - I totally agree that this looks lame. They don't seem to have a cohesive plan of what a BMW EV is supposed to be, and maybe this is an over-correction from the i3.

When I'm "running the table" to trigger people it's really obvious because I'll look for their logic faults or hubris and beat the snot out of them.

Because people here aren't smart enough to just ignore me, the game is on. The down voting is absolutely hilarious because it's the passive-aggressive, junior-high, stabby-bullshit mentality of small minds. The down votes are supposed to hurt me and send a message.

The only people that can hurt my feelings are those I care about, but everyone here is just words on a screen to me.

I'm very well-educated, but I did come from very destitute roots, so I "flavor" what I say. My masters and PhD are in psychology so I enjoy the Machiavellian nature of the flavoring.

By absolute happenstance I fell into the car business, but I'm making way more than an MFT of a psych-D would, so it's all good.

I find it hilarious that people think they can hurt me by criticizing any of the brands that our group sells. I have absolute brand loyalty to TVR and Jensen, but nothing else.

If you pay attention, I've actually stepped two blocks back from the volume political commentary I used to make. I mentioned a while back that 75% of the volume here is leftists bitching with each other and then doing their CTRL +V boilerplate diatribes. Then I noted 75% / CTRL + V posts from that point on. The volume of leftist posts is easily 75% of the traffic BUT here's the delicious thing "75% / CTRL + V" enrages morons to spew more.

#puppets.

I'd consider having you over for martinis, mignons, and motorcars. Hell you could even tie one on. The wife is finishing construction of a guest house.

By the way, the most egregiously oblivious person here is TomM. Pulling his strings is so easy it's almost become boring.

ACtually most of the Political Bitching comes from YOU Matt. Most of the people here do not engage political nonsense that the Anarchist Far Right espouses but YOU seem to have been brainwashed by hook, line and sinker.

THAT is why it is so easy to get you off on a tangent, noting that this is NOT a political Forum. But then - most here ignore your rants anyway - since they almost never make any sense based on the topics involved.

IT is nice to know that you could not make in the topic of your claimed Doctorate - so you ended up being a Used Car Salesman. That and your blind loyalty to ancient British roadsters of little value - pretty much tell us all we need to know about you - car salesmen being among the lowest of the low in the totem pole when it comes to trust- AS EVERYONE HERE will agree!

@TomM I know your tribe hates facts, but the fact is that if you look at the sheet number of words in the political spew here, the Alt-Left is easily 75% of the traffic. I know your tribe also believes in the concept of "my truth" which is where you take an opinion, call it a truth, and then demand people treat it as such. Well, opinions are like assholes; everybody's got one...and you certainly are one. So spare us all your CTRL + V boilerplate bullshti.
