Rumor Mill: General Motors Has Already Given Up On A Bronco-Wrangler Rival

Has General Motors abandoned plans to build an SUV that would compete with the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited and Ford Bronco? The rumor mills are churning.

With more Americans embracing light trucks, forecasters LMC Automotive and AutoPacific say GM was developing a body-on-frame SUV for the North American market. But late last year, GM canceled the plans, according to Muscle Cars and Trucks.

If the Bronco looks like that they're going to have a hard time keeping them on the lots... why does GM not do a K-5 Blazer? I mean seriously.... what the flip?

Well it needs to be a serious effort with body on frame. That's the problem, GM isn't making serious efforts. Much like Toyota when the bean counters took over. The whole brand became bland and lost innovation.

Is this why I do not see a lot of Chevy Blazers on the road even though it has been available for buy months ago?

Emissions ratings may be a factor.

Also, just b/c the fanatics say build a Bronco competitor - that doesn't mean the average consumers are going to actually want it. At least in the volumes necessary to sustain & further develop the model.

This (small) Bronco is going to be expensive. Its a niche product. Plan to see a lot of shared components where necessary with existing models. But since Ford already has the Raptor F-150 & Ranger, they're years ahead of GM possibly. And they have the financial advantage.

ALSO....

Would you rather GM focus on a Wrangler/Bronco competitor vs a small/medium EV SUV to counter Tesla/Ford/Audi/M-B advancements.
