Infiniti Teases BMW X4 Challenger - Haven't We Heard This Before?

Infiniti will elbow its way into the crowd of German-dominated sporty premium crossovers with a coupe version of its compact crossover QX50.

The QX55, which will arrive in dealerships next summer, will let Infiniti go nose-to-nose with the Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe and BMW X4. Year to date, U.S. sales of luxury crossover coupes are up about 40 percent, led by the new Audi Q8.

What a clueless company. The QX50, which SHOULD be selling in the volumes that the Q5/RDX/GLC/X3 do, isn't a success story. Actually, it should be considered an abject failure considering that segment is the hottest one in the premium SUV market. And now they think a coupe version is the ticket? Clueless.

THere was a time when an Infiniti might have been considered CLOSE to being a Premium class car. The fact is, only the original Q45 came close - especially with the active suspension option.

Nissan made the mistake of making Infiniti like Lexus - rebadged, leather interior plain Nissans - that pretty much was the death of Infiniti - which is no longer considered top level premium by most - even though they ask the money (THey don't get it though). ANd it is because they have NOT EARNED the premium prices they ask - that they don't sell. Nissan itself has really fallen - once a real Toyota competitor - the cars are now cheap and unreliable. THey might be competition for KIA - not much else.

why did they cancel the FX model in the first place. That was a nice sporty SUV, and the V8 model was very nice.

I agree. The FX/QX70 was the anti-LexusRX and I loved it for that. Then they uglified it and sales tanked.
