Is There A Quiet Correction Happening To New Luxury Car Prices?
From a macro perspective, there's no question that sport-utility vehicles and trucks are dominating the automotive landscape today. It's been a strong trend for some time now and it appears it's not dying out.

Cars are simply slogging through this phase, right now.

Luxury cars, it seems, are starting to sit a bit too long on dealer lots. That means cash on the hood and deals to be had — provided you do some digging.

This applies to your traditional luxury sedans as well as more forward-thinking choices, like the Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo. Take, for example, our cover image. It's a teaser advertisement for a Panamera Turbo Sport Turismo with $50,000 in savings.

Have you noticed similar deals in your neighborhood?

Do you see a quiet correction happening to new luxury car prices as buyers continue to opt for SUVs and trucks?

That is insane. I have never seen that kind of cash on the hood. More than double any ad I have come across. If that is not desperation... Mind you Porsche should be clearing any Panamera model from the channel. The Taycan and likely a Taycan Turismo will all be kill off Panamera sales. I would suspect the same thing will happen if they make a Cayenne replacement from this BEV platform.

LOL then you've never visited a Maserati or Alfa Romeo dealer. They are the kings of cataclysmic discounts.

@MD- The highest I have ever seen was a $25k discount on a 7 Series. Nothing approaching $50k. Jeepers. BTW how does that work at the dealership level?

It would all depend on on the money from the manufacturer to sweeten the deal. Maserati cleaned out 2017s with a stupefying amount off of the Ghibli and Qporte just to get rid of them.

The plan of having a BMW 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7. 7. 8, 9, 10 Series or a Mercedes A-Z Class is a house of cards waiting to happen.

Although Cadillac BOTCHED it with not going to names. Reskinning the ATS and placing one price class lower as they have done is a good move. Sadly the CT5 is disgusting, but it is positioned right.

Audi should consolidate the A3/4 into one car that is A4 sized and A3 priced. The Audi A6/7/8 should be a car bigger than an A6, but smaller than an A8, but priced between the current A4 and A6.

Sedans need to provide extreme value even at the premium level. I predict that having a dozen crossovers that are all indistinguishable from each other in car lines will be the next market glitch.

I'm amazed that our local Porsche dealer has 14 2018's still on the lot. The website doesn't offer insight as to the discounts, that my friend you'll need to learn by clicking in and offering up information so that they can hound you for the next 6 months. I honestly believe that there has been such a proliferation of new models each pushing the envelope of pricing absent any real innovation that buyers are suffering fatigue.

Used to be, you could buy the biggest baddest example of a particular model and have it stay fresh at least a few years prior to being one-upped the next year by an even newer badder example - and it grows old after a while. Couple that with the onslaught of SUV's, and things that think they are SUV's, and the market becomes even more confusing.

There was a time not long ago the Agent 001 and I were talking about Tesla, and he told me to never bet against it. I remember during that conversation I remarked that I would never own one, but truth be told, after haven driven several different models I'd be hard pressed not to at least seriously consider one for my next ride. I really like the Model 3, that dual motor performance strikes a special chord in my heart, the biggest detraction I'd have is the interior, not sure if I could grow used to that singular screen.

Anyways, I think this topic has merit and is reflective of the consumer. I'm not a big fan of the recession news, and YES I do believe we as a nation can talk ourselves into one if we aren't careful, but what I do think is people are tightening up a bit when it comes to discretionary spending - a fact reflected in the news this article brings.

I'm not amazed ... The cheapest part in a Porsche is the owner or wanna be owner ... and ...
I worked at a dealer that carried Porsche, sold the franchise to another local car dealer. Was told the brand carried prestige but not profits.

AGENT00R: I hope you don't think Porsche or any other car brand is a sacred cow .... They are all made out of plastic and other ingredients.

It doesn’t say 50k off. It says up to 50k off which could be manipulated in so many ways.

But to be legal, they have to offer 1 at that discount.

My local Porsche never discounts their new models! They try to trade between other Porsche dealers to keep inventory fresh!

"My local Porsche never discounts their new models! So I pay top dollar, but that's a good thing because I didn't have to negotiate the price."
