So HOW Are The Tesla KILLERS Out There Doing? Just Like We PREDICTED They Would. NOT VERY WELL!
You've all read the headlines in the past....It's A BMW KILLER! It's A Corvette KILLER! And on an on. We ourselves have been guilty of using the headline over the years.

Because lets face it, people LOVE battles.

So the latest headline in vogue? TESLA KILLER!

New Tesla KILLER! Jaguar I-Pace. New Tesla KILLER! Audi E-Tron. On and on and on.

So the million dollar question is HOW are these Tesla KILLER'S doing?

Well, THEY'RE GETTING CRUSHED!

Both the Jaguar and Audi sales have been pretty lame.

But Jag has the answer!

Tesla owners will get a $3k rebate if they buy an I-Pace in the next 90 days to boost sales.

So Spies, HOW do you think that's going to work out?

TONS of Tesla buyers will be transitioning to JAGUARS! NOT IN A BILLION YEARS! LOL!

We predicted no one would beat Tesla. And so far we've been right.

Will Porsche be the next flop in this segment?

Chime in and give us your thoughts on this...

Hard to say. The Taycan will do 30k-40k units in the first year worldwide. Will it impact Model S sales or are these sales that would not have gone to Tesla anyway. We will have to wait and see what the numbers are like after the first quarter or two of Taycan sales.

The Taycan is going to be much more expensive than a Model S, we'll see if it will strongly impact Tesla sales or if Porsche fans have been holding out for years knowing something is coming.

Right now they're competing with Civics, Aston Martins, and everything in between.

One very key difference - Tesla is dumping their cars on the market at a loss, over $1.0 billion in the last two quarters alone. They save money by selling their product into the marketplace without completing development. The new entries will take time to develop a market, but they will and it will happen without the losses Tesla has accumulated.
To further address this point, sales of Tesla Models S and X are dropped 50 and 60 percent respectively this year. so yes the competition is having an impact. And the competition is not going after money-losing Model 3 type products.

There is gross margin in all of their cars, when you dump a product there is negative margin.

Model 3 and Y are going to be the critical products in the portfolio. S, X, Roadster, Semi, and the Truck will probably make up 10% of revenue combined.

Hey, SunshineDriver, if there is margin in everything why did Tesla lose a billion dollars in the first half? Gross margin is but one measure of profitability. They obviously are not making enough to cover expenses despite cutting capex dramatically.
Model Y is a raised Model 3. Tesla cannot make enough margin on Model 3 or Y to sustain operations.

I think there is plenty of margin there if they continue to grow sales without increasing CAPEX and Operations costs to scale. Remember costs will be lower with Gigafactory 3 in the mix. Plenty of upsell potential on existing cars with Full Self Driving features that are rolling out this year as well.

Actually they make about 19%GP on every model 3. I am guessing that massive investment in building out a full car line, Semi market etc... is a big part of what is putting them up side over as a company.

You are just guessing and you are wrong. The GP has been falling for several quarters in a row. The only way to prop up demand is to lower price and sell a cheaper product mix - ala lower priced Model 3s. The average selling price is falling faster than average CAGS. Selling more will only lose more money.

They could also drop the cost (Gigafactory 3, Model Y enhancements) or add new functionality (Full Self Driving, Video Games, Karaoke, etc.).

If that is all you value when you buy a car is the IIHS safety rating then you are right.

We still do not have direct comparable vehicles in class, size, and price - to make such a decision. It will be at least another year - maybe two. But it is interesting to note that while TEsla has already announced that the S and X will not get major updates - in that time - sales of those vehicles - where TESLA actually does make money - are dropping off drastically - leaving marginally unprofitable Model 3 Sales to take their place. TEsla cannot continue for long without a profit center vehicle.

The Audi has an issue with Range and the fact that many people are waiting on the model Y which is cheaper., There is no single "Tesla Killer" out there, the problem for Tesla is that when there are 30 different EVs to chose from (7-10 years out) there will be a lot of competition. If by that time Tesla can not build cars efficiently they will get killed on price.

The competition is years behind, and not just on product alone, they are behind on many fronts. Tesla's direct sales buying process is easier, supercharger network dominates, OTA updates enhance the vehicle over time, their battery supply chain is huge advantage, their tech features are superior, design (although not for everyone) is clean and simple, and when you consider price/performance/range, the competition still doesn't come close. And all this from an American car company. Like them or not, they definitely shook up the industry. Sales don't lie! The story shouldn't be who will kill Tesla, but who will Tesla kill?

Where Tesla is ahead, is with their network of convenient Superchargers. Other mfgrs just don't have that kind of infrastructure.

OTOH, Tesla is killing itself by being unprofitable. They'd better turn that around real quick.

Tesla beats every other manufacture in losses. No one can compete. Tesla gives away cars. Unfortunately it's not a viable business model.

The Taycan will win a lot of Model S converts. At this snack bracket, it was never about saving the environment nor saving money on gas. It was an image play and the next hot thing is the Taycan. Best part of the Taycan is it's a complete package with leaps up in quality. They developed it properly by taking their time to build mindshare.

Tesla's magic is in the software too. State-of-the-art and never feels old.

The i-pace seems rushed but I actually like it a lot except for their infotainment system. I don't have large car needs nor need to compensate with a large vehicle. The interface is huge for a vehicle like this especially competing against Tesla.
